Many things effect haircolor...such as tanning salons, sunlight, hard water, hairspray, and even some shampoos. You may want to try using a shampoo meant for your color. Some shampoos can be harsh and wash out color faster. Or you could get one that color refreshes inbetween colorings,so you dont have to color quite so often. Artec is a good one,I bought some online.
If you dye your whole head each time instead of just roots only, your hair is getting more and more damaged each time you do it. Your hair is now dryer and more porous than your natural hair was, that could be why the dye is washing out faster.
The fact that you say your roots fade to gold (hair which should not be so porous) is strange though. Makes me wonder also if they didn't change the formula. You may want to call the company and ask them, to rule that out.

I have been coloring my hair with a dark brown shade of Feria since 2003 and I have found that the last three applications have faded substantially within one or two washings-- nearly completly within 3 weeks. My dark brown fades tp light brownish/red, looking almost gold at the roots.
I think my hair is naturally medium ashy brown. I used to get a solid 6 weeks of strong dark brown color before it faded. Is it possible that my hair just got "used to" the color and that is why it isn't working? Or has Feria changed their formula? Should I switch brands? Any advice would be much appreciated, I miss my color!
