I just got my shrinkies, protac and new wand today!!!!! (((happy dance)))
Came home late and they were waiting in the mail for me. They might have come yesterday if the mail would have come. (We had a huge snow storm yesterday and the roads in front of my house were impassable so for the first time ever - no mail) I didn't expect them for a few days still. THAT WAS FAST!

Halo, if you try all the methods in your post, let me know which one stayed in the longest.
I'm not new to the weave game, but it's been a year since I've worn weave. But I've been doing it the old fashioned way, with hair glue or sew ins. So now I'm trying to get back in the game and try something new.

I've been on the board for hours doing searches and reading old posts. I think I have a little clearer picture now.
I'm kicking myself for only focusing on how to make my fusion last longer when all this time shrinkies and other techniques have been staring me in the face.
I don't do any of this professionally so I am learning through trial and error. At this point I think it'd be better for my wallet and my hair to go to beauty school and take a few ext classes.
I found a few different ideas for Itipping the hair for the shrinkies that don't involve fusion glue. I'm off to go buy supplies.

I have made my own tipped hair for my clients using keratin glue and rolled the tips into an I-tip. I then have applied them using shrink links. I find that the keratin of the tip melts and oozes out from the shrinkie causing a big mess. Also, the melting keratin actually makes the shrinkie melt in two very often, and then I have to take the extra time to take it out and reinstall.
After doing this many times on clients, I don't recommend using glue under shrinkies.
I'll try shrinkies first the way they're intended to be used and just do a few test strands of the fusion + shrinkies combo so I don't end up bald trying to remove an entire head of something that won't come out.
I'll do some hair fusion with a different brand glue and try some microlinks too so I can compare how long each type wears. I may even try a row or two of protac while I'm at it. I can play around right now because I don't have anything important going on. But I'd like to decide on something well before new years eve. So hopefully whatever I put in will look half way decent for Christmas and be willing to come out to make way for a fresh install by New Years. Please warn me now if you don't think it will.

Just wondering what fusion glues you've had good experiences with? I've been using mega hi tech disks melted in a hot pot lately. I have a lot of trouble with the glue breaking down but it may be because I wash my hair more often than recommended. I'm careful about how I wash it but it's still rough on the glue.
I just ordered some black fusion glue sticks from shrinkies.net but I don't know if it's different from mega glue or not.

I was fishing around looking for different ways to put hair in my head, and i stumbled on this one site, where they used shrinkies with the pre-tipped hair. the way they explained it was, basically all you are heating up is the shrinkie, which is water-proofing the pre-tipped. they did not heat the pre-tip, just the shrinkie.
Then they said to re-heat the shrinkie when you want it out, and used some type of oil to get what little glue is left in the hair.

Just my personal opinion here... Shrinkies=Awsome but Fusion=Heinous. Coupled with Sally's hair i would say go for shrinkies. The removal process is easier and gentler on your real hair.

I didn't do that exactly, but I took U-tips and melted them and rolled them into I-tips. Then I did shrinkies, and I think the excess glue melted under the shrinkies. Anyways, it sure didn't fall out, but I was literally in tears trying to get it out!
A few days later I went to wisconsin dells and spent the next few days entirely in pools, and even after removing and all the swimming and pulling and combing and what not, about half of them were still in!
Over the next few weeks they came out, and then there were a few I finally cut out of my hair. It was horrible! It looked like snot in my hair!!
So I may have just had a bad experience, but I would suggest you try one or another before trying this....
I've never tried it but my first thought is that if your glue is breaking down and slipping this much you might want to try a different kind.
I'm trying to think of why putting the shrinkies over the fusion wouldn't work...playing devil's advocate... You'd need to make sure your fusion strands aren't thicker than the shrinkie can cover or you'll end up with a seam from the shrinkie, it's a ton more work - your arm muscles will get a workout that's for sure, you might see some of the glue "ooze" out from under the shrinkie...
You could make your u-tip strands into shoelace tips & use your shrinkies as-is as an alternative.
Very creative, can't wait to hear how it works out!

I'm going to use the sally satin strand hair I have already.
I did a few test washes/blow drys with cool water on part of a weft and the hair held up pretty well. As soon as I washed it a few times in hot water it started to get ratty. SO I have a bunch of cold showers in my future. But anything for good hair
ps I was wondering if any of you have put shrinkies over fusion?
I hear shrinkies hold up well and I am familiar with fusion. My biggest issue with fusion is the glue wears down and gets white and gummy which leads to my hair shedding/ext slipping. I was wondering if it would work to combine fusion and shrinkies.
I was thinking about doing a fusion bond and then cutting a shrinkie open, wrapping it around the fusion bond and melting it on top to kind of seal the bond?
