QuoteReplyTopic: Fav DYI highlighting kit?? Posted: December 05 2006 at 4:56am
I can't afford the salon. So it's either DYI or nothing at all.
I did a strand test last night. I used Revlon Frost & Glow after reading tons of good reviews at makeupalley.com. I left it on for 15 minutes and the roots (about 1 inch from my scalp) came out caramel (good!), but the length of my hair turned pale yellow and platinum. Do I need to put it on the roots first and then pull thru to the ends for just 5 minutes, or so?
Oh, and I've also read rec's that you can use a toner from Sally's after highlighting to prevent the "bleached" look. What about that option?

If you do decide to use the at home kind, dont leave it on the full amount of time or could come out looking platnium. Leave it on only about 5-10 minutes tops.

I would go to a professional. The DIY kits usually spell disaster for hair that has been died. Your hair should get lighter anyway. But if you still want to do it yourself I would go to sally's. I've read alot of bad things about the DS brands.
Good luck
Shary.

I colored my hair an all-over dark blonde and it came out a little darker than I would like. Kind of washes me out. Anywhoo... I thought about adding some golden or caramel highlights at the crown. I want to use a cap and needle. Should I go to Sally's? Or are the d/s brands just as good? TIA.
