I've played with the thought of bleaching my hair to blonde. I did it once upon a long time ago and don't remember it being too bad,but maybe I'm just blocking out the bad memories !
Probably better to stick to dark... .

I recently bought John Freida's brunette color glaze in "espresso".  It is basically a conditioner hair stain mix.  You leave it on for 3 minutes every time you shampoo.  It does seem to "richen" the color.  However, it will do the same to your hands...think instant tanning lotion...so you have to wash very well right after.  Also, if you are having problems removing stubborn protac...this will take them right out.  So be careful if you dont' want to remove them.

hiya nikkie my hair wasnt black. it was a med/dark brown. i went gradually at the hairdressers she used foils and i got up to a golden blonde. then i had it done again with foils and it got up to a white blonde. although beuase of my natural hair it was always throwing up orange tones so i had to have it reguarly toned to get it pale again.

i am not sure of the kind of bleach she used but i think it was loreal.

im really glad i went back to dark as i can feel the condition improving already and im adding lots of blonde in with extensions.

Kirsty,
What bleach did you use to go from black to blonde?

I bleach my hair and find that Redkin Fat Cat is a great protein restructurizer, the other items mentioned are great for adding shine and conditioning.  this is a treatment I use right after bleaching and also about once a week to keep my hair from breaking.  I swear by it.

if i understand correctly, you have dyed over previsouly bleached blonde hair.......me too! i use l'oreal color gems demi permanent to put in all sorts of lowlights (yes, i have about five different colors on my head, and i've gotten lots of compliments!)...i gradually built up the color over several months because at first my bleached hair just let all that color wash right off, but now it holds well....this has made my hair super shiny, no shine products needed

another thing that helps i believe is i use the conditioner that amandabeechwood from here recommends: goldwell kerasilk, it is amazing    ...sometimes i alternate with neutrogena triple moisture that amm recommends, it really seems quite close in comparision to the goldwell

thanks for that! i hav been trying to use a good conditioner but im still using supermarket shampoo which may be stripping colour. il look, out for those products and give them a whirl. i think your right tho, condition is key to shine. i always feel putting lots of serum on is just a temp fix cos as soon as u wash it out ur hair is stil so dry. im going to concentrate on getting it back into good condition and hopfully the colour will then hold better.

Schwarzkopf Bonacure Total Repair Treatment once a week, and Scharzkopf Herbal Sealant after coloring and every two-three shampooings. I think a good shampoo and some good conditioners go a much longer way to keeping shine in the hair than any product you leave on the hair.
Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE!

also cellophanes by colourshines really helps to lock in the semi perm color

And just to be clear I don't use semi perm color every time it gets a little dry. I do a protien treatment like redken extreme deep fuel and do a moisturing cond treatment every week.

I only color every few weeks to cover my lighter new growth and fill the porous ends. It's a crazy look having black hair with dark blond roots I'll tell you. But adding semi perm color seems a lot easier on it than bleaching it out.

I've had that same problem

mine wasn't holding the permanent color well so I added a semi permanant color over it with a slightly lighter semi perm dark color for highlights and it has held much better.

I put my hair through hell. It was bleached platinum. I made it black. Then went blonde again not too long after. I couldn't stand my naturally dark blond growing out so fast and having to bleach roots again so I went black/brown next. It's so much healthier now with it darker even though I've put it through hair hell a few times over. When it fades and the ends start losing the color a semi perm color really helps and is pretty gentle to apply. My hair always seems shinier after that.

As far as products I've had good luck with:
redken extreme anti-snap
ion oil free glosser
farouk silk therapy
and texture shine texture line by artec(use just a little or it weighs it down).

Good luck. With a good shampoo and regular protien and conditioning treatments your hair will start to look like new in no time. I thought mine was hopeless but it's getting so much healthier by keeping it dark and surprisingly the majority of people I know prefer it dark on me. I was some shade of blond my entire life until recently and I'm enjoying the change.

i recently went back to my natural dark brown which i really like.
at first my hair looked really shiny but after a few washes the colour has washed out a little and my hair is not so shiny and starting to look quite porous and that kinda bleached way..but dark...

is there a good product to use to get my hair glossy again.?
