Hi christa,

Your regime sounds good but I saw 3 things that may be contributing to your breakage and shedding...You need to wait at least 6-8 weeks before getting a relaxer (I use to relax every 4 weeks and wonder why I was having a problem with my hair too ) if you can stretch even longer that would be best so that you don't overlap your relaxer. Also 2 products sound like they are heavy with protein: Softee protein gel and Cantu break cure. I personally feel that Cantu is the devil after I had major breakage using their grow strong regulary. Too much protein on your hair will lead to breakage. Also most gels can be drying however Fantasia sparkelites is a great moistrizing gel. I would advise slowing down or cutting out these products out and stick to increasing your moisture (adding honey and olive oil to any conditoner will increase the moisture) or try ORS replenshing paks and a very moisturing leave-in is Neutrugena Silk-touch. I would suggest you increase the amount of times you deep condition like bouncy curls said. For me when I started doing this within a month I was noticing differences in the health of my hair. When you do deep condition incorporate heat and leave cond in for at least 20 min. Everything the girls said is good advice. You don't want to use all your products in your regimen because cemesweet had a good point: you won't know what works best FOR YOU. The main part of good hair care is learning and listening to your own hair. Cut back on relaxing, even if your hair grows fast, even with an inch of new growth it can be easy to overlap relaxed hair with will cause breakage. Challenge yourself and see how long you can go without one. The regimen bouncy curls gave I think is a good way to start.

I agree...simplifying might do better. There is no way to possibly know what is working or not working for your hair if you are using alot of products at a time.

Your washing routine can be as frequent as you like, however, i would suggest trying to use one thing at time. Each item for a month to see how it works for you.

Also, I think you should stretch your relaxers...if I recall correctly, the instructions in the relaxer box says to do touchups ever 6-8 weeks at the LEAST. You are relaxing too frequently and trimming to frequently as well.

Hello,

It seems like you have a pretty good routine. I have found that less really is more and my routine is very simple. Just a suggestion since you asked, I would pick one shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer and stick to washing at least once per week. Of course use a leave in each time you wash.  I would also deep condition weekly to keep the hair moisturized. If you can air dry your hair that is great but if not, Soft bonnet dryers work well. You can set your hair on magnetic rollers to dry it. This way, you won't have to use direct heat such as a blow dryer. So I guess your regimen would go something like this:

Wash hair 1x per week
Condition hair 1x per week
Use a leave in with each wash
Moisturize hair everyday
Dry hair weekly by either air drying or using the soft or hard bonnet dryer

I'm sure the other ladies may have better regimens for you but this is what has worked very well for me. When my hair broke off to a very short neck length, I used this routine and it helped me to grow my hair past my shoulders within six months. I hope this helps!
