My hair is a very dark blonde, in 2005 I noticed lots of grey so decided to colour. I chose a Clairol Ash Blonde. In the space of a year I coloured my whole head 4 times. A month after the 4th time my hair started to break badly, I was really frightened by it. Also my hair used to be curly/wavy and now its really limp and a friend thought I had had it straightened. Its a real dilemma as I hate going grey.

Hi Karen, haven't been on all weekend. I didn't go to my appointment, will reschedule, money. Anyway, no rush I guess. I do appreciate that you are seeking more education to perfect your skills. I really do, and I know there are good ones out there! : ) I have studied a lot (reading - the books etc...)while my aunt (who is in another state) was going to school. She is a stylist. But as far as practical stuff, I am no stylist! Just wanna let you know that I do really appreciate what your doing and hopefully, I will find someone who cares as much as you do! I'll keep ya posted. But you are right - that is exactly what they shoulda done, (but if I told them how they should do things they might get mad! Afterall, they're the experts right?) Anyway, good luck with your studies. Im sure you'll do great!

Your welcome, I have done loads of theary through my training, I studied hair for 2 years, and there is so much information you need to know about what colour and bleach does to the hair , how colour and bleach enters the cuticle and cortex, and how it is removed via colour removers, its pretty complex stuff, Unfortunatly not all hairdresser's get the opertunity to have good training. I am however not perfect, I have made 1 or 2 mistakes myself whilst training, but then thats how you learn , and learn never to do the same mistake again. I am doing a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in hairdressing at present, to try and make myself the best I can be.
I am however appauld that they made you pay for their mistake, that is not right , ( by law). They should have apoligied to you profusly ( sorry spelling isnt one of mt good points lol) and offered to fix your hair free of charge.
Hi-lift colours are fantastic if used correctly, all they really should have done to fix your problem was to bleach or lighten the darkest band of colour on your hair, and then applyed a toner to even out your colour.
I really do hope you get your colour that you want, and find a good stylist/colourist, we are not all bad, I promise.

Thank you Karen! Sweet! Yeah, just because they are professionals, does NOT mean they know your hair as well as you do either. That's something only you know. Most of the stylists I have ever been too never seem to have any confidence. It's usually a guessing game to them. Even for simple things. And it really pisses me cause my hair is important. But anyway, why didn't they think of that what you suggested being that they had training??? Hm?? Interesting huh?
Yeah, I don't think they will be removing color though on my appointment will they? Just filling? All that was put on was a toner last time to "fix" their mistake. I guess, I think the high lift blonde counts as a color too huh? OH! Here's the best part: I had to pay to fix their mistake! Or leave the salon with WHITE, SH_T BROWN and Blonde hair! hehe! Your poor hair. The colourist should have used a lower vol of developer on the roots and ends, because she used 40 vol, you ended up with root glow and uneven colour. Anyway I think it would be safe for you to go ahead and get your natural colour back to dark brown. Colour remover's are pretty gentle on the hair so should'nt be a problem, but it is harder to remove red from the hair, so they maybe have to use colour remover twice. I have an appointment Saturday, but I am scared! My natural color is very dark brown, long and curly. Up until April '06 (about 9 months ago) I was touching up roots at the salon and had previously been doing it myself (three times did all over color without knowing I shoulda waited to pull through the rest of the hair) But it was okay. I was touching up roots because of gray. (About a year before I had all over blonde highlights)
Anyway, last time I went we tried to do light brown (though it would blend better with the gray). Long story short: Used Light Blonde with a 40 developer (high lift color). Roots turned WHITE, middle section a light brown reddish, and the ends nearly white. So then they put a toner in it after the stylist panicked. So I leave with this reddish brown color (did not want but at least I still have hair right?) I have been too scared to return. Going somewhere else now, and have given them a hair history prior to appointment. Since it's been 9 months, would it be safe to go back to my natural? Realizing this will be double process (Filler then color). Hair is relatively healthy, kept outta sun, conditioned well and combed delicately. I treat it good! I have 4 inches of what I call "damn near black" with my gray, then the rest is that reddish brown. I ask other's opinions because even though I've been to the salon many many times, they don't always seem to know everything and one time (after tearing through freshly bleached hair with a comb) the stylist "couldn't understand why it was breaking off......." really? Even I know that ya shouldn't tear through hair at all for any reason. Comb from the bottom up gently right? Or the time when I told them "If you don't think this can be done safely then lets not do it........" But ended up with this. If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate them. Just wanna get it back brown (safely without losing hair).
