The next step would be to try colorfix (by clairol) then. It is an oil based substance that gets out color. It's not really damaging cuz it's oily.It will turn your hair an orangish color. Then, you may color over that with whatever color you choose.
Because you dont like the medium brown, then maybe you should opt for a light brown or reddish brown.

I forgot to mention that is has been about three weeks since I colored my hair.  It has gotten a little lighter but it is still pretty dark.  Darker than I would like it to be.

The colour will fade after a few shampoo's , dont worry, Next time opt for the light brown, as medium brown does look pretty dark in artificail light, but in day light it looks fine.

Chinastop gives good advice...but you could wait like a week and see if it washes out some.
The same thing happend to me and I freaked out too. But i swear within a week it was much lighter.

colorfix, bleach/soap cap, or prell (but since it's a perm color, won't help very much, I think).  Since you're very worried about damage, a pro would probably help you the best!

I colored my hair using a permanent color.  The color was medium brown but it actually came out looking almost black.  Is there any way to lightnen the color without destroying my hair?  I have very thin, fine hair so it is easily damaged.  What should I do?
