Good thing you bumped this up! I still haven't been able to combat this problem. Like you said Kellie, the ends are just crunched up and stuck together as if the natural pattern at the ends is too stubborn to break apart. I have no idea why this is. I really don't think it has ANYTHING to do with trimming or splits.      I really don't know.

hey kellie did you do any kind of protein treatment after flat ironing? did you use a heat protectant and low heat temp? has it been humid in Canada? let us know it could have been a combo of things

hi Ladies,

i had to bump this thread again. my ends are messed up. i blow dried my hair 2 weeks ago and it was great (no heat for about 1 yr). i then clipped the ends and it was beautiful and so soft. after 2 days i cow and went back to my twa. then a week later i blow dried again. and the rough ends were back with knots... wth???
Then i thought once i use my denman brush and some QP mango butter i should be good. but when i used the flat iron, the ends were all bent up and crunchy at the tips and would not flatten. but the strands were flat and beautiful.
i ended up having to clip them again. now i am back in braids cause i don't want to have to keep cutting my hair. i clipped the ends before braiding. i hope this will help. i don't get what the problem is with the ends cause i have been cow and moisturizing... help me, please ..

The Baggie method is when you put all of your favourite moisturizers in your hair and cover it with a plastic cap..almost like conditioning, except you use moisturizer & oil instead of conditioner.  Thanks Black Honey.. I've read somewhere that the Tigi Iron causes tremendous splits.  It's HORRIBLE. I hate to see the baby splits.. regardless of how much pressing creme and hit protectant I saturate my ends with.  I need to stop all of the faking and get a good iron.. (Solia)

I agree with some of the other posters...ceramic plated not ceramic coated flat irons are best for the hair...I am not familiar with the iron you have but you might want to check that out. To help with breakage mix blackstrap molasses in a bowl of moisturizing conditioner or do a med/ligh protein treatment ex: Aphogee 2min recon. HTH

..Most of it is natural except a few straggled ends that won't go anywhere .. that's what breaks. I suppose. I have had a relaxer in over a year.

Hi...I think I found something helpful when it comes to sealing your ends. I hope it helps!!Big%20smile They say that you have to purchase that end sealer but....I think that you should buy whatever end sealer that takes to your hair.

your flat iron is probably just putting heat to your hair without actually smoothing the cuticle layer of your hair. I had this problem when I used to use the marcel irons, the heat would help to straighten but the hair needed more moisture to really smooth the hair down. Buy a new flat iron so you don't have to worry about regulating heat, ceramic is good. then like the ladies were saying just make sure you protect your ends and keep them moisturized

Thanks Ladies.  My ends feel slightly better now after deep conditioning with Aussie Moist and KeraCare Essential Oils.  However, I noticed that my ends are too stubborn to break the curl pattern when I straighten, which is probably why they are frizzy.  It'll soon be time for another little trim, so I'm not too worried.  Any other suggestions are welcomed Embarrassed

Well I think the problem might be with your iron then. Also if you don't like grease you can baggy with your regular moisturizer and oil. A lot of ladies get better results that way. I know I do

I just trimmed recently, and girl I've been on here long enough to know that grease doesn't really moisturize.  Although, many females still use grease despite hair knowledge because essentially, there's not too much wrong with it unless it contains the petrolatum (or however you spell it)  I only have used heat every 2 weeks if that.  My flat iron does not have a setting. I need a new one!  Anyhow..it's Tigi!  And I think it's a little too hot for my head.  I use tons of heat protectant.  Redken Heat GlideClap, KeraCare Essential Oils, KeraCare Liquid Silken Seal, and Keracare Creme Press.  All of those can be used to protect hair from heat damageWink! The last trim was right after Christmas or so.  I finally grew out my rat tail LOL(I love weird hair cuts)  I've been bagging for the past 3 days or so with grease.  I know a lot of ladies use Vaseline for bagging and/or grease. I hate grease, and I moisturize my hair with KeraCare Oil Moisturizer and seal with KeraCare Essential Oils.  Those two as a combo do it for me.  When I was relaxed, the oil moisturizer was absolutely crap, now it's GREAT!  I hate to touch my ends because I see so much breakage and shed.  It's disgusting.  And it just occured to me that my ends are still trying to fight the relaxer I once had.

PG

i just stumbled across your thread, ive been having problems w/ moisture too on my natural treses. im guessing if the current products arent working i should switch them, ill wait and see what the other members think.

im tempted to flat iron my hair w/a protectant(thanx BW) so i can do a partial head weave and straight ponys( i miss them) .

i just found a conditioner that makes my hair manageable and soft it is also smoothing so it might tame your ends- Lusters Revitalex conditioner!! give it a try if not work hard on creating a healthy break free and strong head of hair.
I guess my best advice is, if doesnt work try stop doing it!! i know its hard sometimes ive been there.

My ends only feel rough after flat ironing if I haven't trimmed for months. Yo might be using too much heat on your hair. Try a lower setting when you flat iron. Or you probably just need a trim. Do you use a heat protectant? I try to baggy my ends as often as possible so they stay pretty soft and smooth when I do use heat on them. What are you using to moisturize?  grease doesn't moisturize hair so you need a good moisturizer and oil to seal it in or a light oil that can penetrate the cuticles like coconut or jojoba.

After blowing out my hair and flat ironing yesterday..I realized that my ends were REALLY ROUGH.  I think when I detangle my hair the curls ride up to the ends and causes it to be more tangles then snapping and breaking.  Naturals, when you blow dry and flat iron your hair are your ends not flat and seem rough?  My ends weren't rough prior to detangling and blow drying and then flat ironing.  I've seem to have this problem for awhile unless I clip my ends beforehand.  Even though I flat iron twice a month (if that) should I clip my ends? My last clip was right after Christmas.  I'm not sure of how to protect me ends instead of clipping.  Moisturizing has always been tough for me, but I still do it..the ends are just..out of whack and the only way to smooth them is with using tons of greaseDead.  Help!
