QuoteReplyTopic: Red Hair Washing Away First Shampoo - HELP Posted: March 30 2007 at 12:16am
Just because it's a high-end salon doesn't mean it's any better than anywhere else. I found that out a long time ago myself. There's good and bad EVERYWHERE.

Just want to add,if you do get the ARTec,dont use red on blonde hair! It will make it look pinkish. Only use the ARTec red shampoo on hair that is red or brown.

If u like red alot.I'd keep doing that color.I'd get Artec shampoo & use it the next day when u first wash your hair.Trust me it really helps.it adds color to the cuitcle fiber. It's made for colored or bleached hair.I use it & it makes my blonde highlights bright & shiny.I was a redhead a few months ago.I used the reds for Artec & it was great.U should read up online about it.To tell u the truth.I'd rather have my red back, but my hubby loves my hair blonde.I mean I like it alot to,bit the red I was always use to.well, Good luck!!

I can't thank each of you enough! My highlights have changed color drastically in only 7 days. My ex-stylist wanted me to have some light brown/dark blonde hightlights and they're now orangish-blonde (very brassy - yuck!). The reds that I chose are still red, just not as vibrant. I'm afraid to get highlights again. Thanks to everyone's advice, when I do get my hair dyed, I'll go the very dark brown route. Then, I'll be able to go red and the red will adhere. Thanks again - Irena

A quick note on red colors....it's a smallest of the color molecules which means it's the easiest to get into the hair and it's also the hardest to maintain in the hair.
If the hair was lightened to a blonde and then toned red you can forget about keeping that haircolor in the hair...they lightened you too much to tone you with a semi-permanent color. At this point I'd suggest a demi-permanent color to tone the hair to red as it will stain the cortex of the hair strands and actually last longer than permanent color on your highlighted hair.
Aveda is a good color line but it's a little translucent and the gray coverage is not the greatest....oh and stay away from 7N in Aveda....it's very muddy and a really ugly color.

Thanks Susan and Sofine. I did go to the Salon during my lunch hour and spoke with the Manager. It was a worse experience than the phone conversation. The Manager said that they didn't do anything wrong, so she wouldn't offer me anything. She didn't even apologize. Stylists were laughing at me. What a snobs! Living in Northern VA where we have so many fine salons, it was a shock. Good thing is that I passed an Aveda salon and spoke with several stylists (it was a late lunch - off hour with few customers). They were shocked by my experience and said the Manager should have offered a free toner. Aveda thought it wasn't washed out all the way or processed correctly. I want to thank both of you for confirming what I thought and Sofine, the red wasn't covering blonde, but that was a good point and to keep in mind for future. Have either of you gone to an Aveda salon?? Even with all this, I'm enjoying being red. It's fun! And, I found this site!

Any chance they used a semi-permanent color? What was your hair color before the appointment? I've heard that if you have light blonde hair or white highlights, then a "filler" is needed to give something for the new color to "hold on to" since the lighter your hair color, the less natural pigment is present. But, I'm not exactly sure since I'm not a pro. I would say that you should go back to the same salon so they can "see" what happened. Then they'll have less opportunity to give you the run-a-round if you're there instead of discussing it over the phone.
Good luck!
I can't say that ever happened to me. My reds always did wash out
fast, but not THAT fast, and they didn't put dye everywhere after I
went home. That's kind of weird they told you to get dark
towels. If it was the case every time you would think they'd have
a policy to tell everyone to get dark towels BEFORE they go
home...sounds like a cop out. Maybe they use some weird
dye? I'd try a different salon next time. (I would say
maybe it was your shampoo, but that Pureology is supposed to help color
stay in better from what I know, so I wouldn't have thought it would be
that).

Sorry, I'm new here and I think I posted this question in the wrong forum, so I'm reposting to get an answer. My hair was professionally highlighted for the first time with various shades of red at a fancy salon w/great reputation 3 days ago. I washed it yesterday morning w/Pureology shampoo (another investment) and it washed away! All over shower/tub, liner, and towel. Noticed red on my face towel from just washing my face past few days! I called salon yesterday morning and they said I had to speak to manager, who never returned my call. Called this afternoon and she finally got on phone, telling me red hair washes out every time I shampoo and this is normal. She told me to purchase dark towels. The vibrancy isn't nearly what it was 3 days ago and I can see it has dulled already. If I'm experiencing this after 3 days, how can I expect my highlights to last 12 weeks, but the manager insists this is normal. I thought people had their hair done at salons to avoid the mess and for color to last. This is a first for me, never had my hair dyed before, but this is a high rep salon, so I don't know what to think. From what I've read, red washes out faster, but to have so much wash out from first shampoo? Help, please. I'm so new to this. Thanks! Irena
