Yea, that is definitely a good idea. At least use baking soda or a clarifying shampoo once a week or so. Never shampooing is definitely not a good idea.
That may sound like a good idea now, and I have also heard of people who though this conditioner only thing was the greatest thing in the world. They did it for a while, and overtime a lot of buildup developed all over the scalp causing seborrhea (cradle cap).
That's a good reason to be cautious. It might be a good idea to shampoo or use a baking soda wash every so often just to make sure it's not building up.

I don't know about you, but I would rather have my hair be dry than have it fall out and develop that nastiness on the scalp. This no shampoo thing is way too good to be true if it causes such major issues for some people.
Thanks. I think I like this no-poo thing so far. My hair isn't even greasy. I just give it a good srub with conditioner and I'm good to go. The best part is that my hair doesn't look as dull:)
If you find it doesn't work well for you, here are some alternatives:
~ shampoo less often and CO (condition only) in between
~ use smaller portions of shampoo
~ shampoo scalp only, then CO the length (if your hair is long enough)
My scalp is easily irritated and gets itchy if I don't thoroughly cleanse it, so no-poo doesn't work for me. But I've had great results with these methods.
Actaually, they are curl specalists:) I'm thinking of giving this "no-poo" thing a shot. My hair is not very curly, but it does feel dry a lot. Plus, my hair has a hard time holding dark color so hopefully this will help. I just hope I can make it through the "adjustment period." Thanks for the reply:)
Hi Ann. From what I can tell, the "no-poo" thing is all the rage! There's a lot of people doing it with wonderful results. Check out www.naturallycurly.com. They talk about it quite a bit. It has also been discussed on different sections of this forum... african-american hair, curly hair, long hair.....
I am new to the forum. I just got my hair colored today and it turned our fabulous. I went to a new salon and I was told that I should consider not shampooing my hair anymore. I was surprised by this, but the girls in the salon have stopped shampooing their hair and their hair was amazing. They said that once I stop shampooing my hair will seem oily at first, but then it will adjust. It's supposed to help manage the slight curliness/waviness of my hair and also help keep my color. They said that shampooing removes a lot of stuff that my hair needs. They recommended just using conditioner. This is what they tell all there clients and they have a very dedicated client base. I live in Ann Arbor, MI and they have clients that come from Ohio and Chicago!
Has anyone heard of this not shampooing thing? Has anyone tried it? I am debating whether or not to give it a shot.
