I see all this talk about Elumen that I wanna try it,but I have blone highlights, so I'd have to wait a year to do my red again.Cuz my hair is fried.I have colored mine way too much.I use a flat iron, so it looks healthy.I haven't been coloring much now.Cuz of my Artec color shampoo.I have med. skin tone & light brown/hazel eyes.What color of red should I try when I do color it?Which will be a hella long time.

Elumen is the best red colour i have come across too. I have coloured my hair red for the laast 20 years (level 6 or 7, blood red) Before i used Elumen I used 20 vol 6R blonding creme (5mls) and Amix (5mls) over and above the mixing ratio of 1:1. The A mix is used to put more blue base into the formula that is being eaten by the 20 vol. when I needed to refresh the colour I put 6R colourance (they have also reformulated colourance in the last few months and the colours are amazing) in my conditioner. Now they (Goldwell) have a red conditioner that I dont have to mix myself. I also used the coloured mousse too.
With the Elumen I prelighten my hair with R Max lift and deposit highlighten system and then rinse, apply the Elumen Prepare, dry my hair and put RR@all all over my head. I proccess for around an hour as I get caught up doing paperwork, rince shampoo and towel dry. Apply the Lock and time for exactly 5 mins. rince and style. I only have to refresh the red after about 2 - 3 months. This is the best red I have found in the business.
And as I side note Yellow is the last colour to be removed from the hair and red the second to be removed and blue is first. Blue colour molecules are closest to the surface of the hair strand and are easily removed by sunlight etc. that is why your hair goes brassy in the summer. red and yellow make orange. The reason blue based reds are the hardest to keep in the hair is not the red colour... but the blue base that fades out first, leaving that beautiful brassy colour we all hate..
If you really want vibrant, try Goldwell's Elumen...I just did and it was super shiny and bright (though mine was coppery not true red). It STICKS too, after one month I have no fadage that I can tell. Good luck.
well i've tried goldwell and i don't think their reds are that vibrant. i also use semi to keep up the red but they are not vibrant enough either. i am very picky with my colors. i have worked with celebrity stylists and they don't seem to know the secrets either. they know a lot about blondes and brunettes but not reds. well thank you for all your help though. i'll keep looking around.

Red is the hardest color to remove and also the hardest color to keep in the hair. I think the fadding is why it is so hard to find a vibrant color that stays. Try touching the color up with a semi or a toner in between colors to keep the color fresh and vibrant. Hope this helps.
You can get some Goldwell via adiscountbeauty.com BUT I have to say that in my experience their customer service is lacking. Last time I got the wrong color shipped so give yourself enough advance time to not have to wait for replacements. They are also slow shippers.

I'd like to hear about that too actually! I used to get mine professionally done at an Aveda Insitute, but it got expensive and I got unemployed. Now I wear extensions and would like to find the same color again because my box of Garnier just isn't doing it. I heard that it's possible sometimes to find salon hair color on the internet where you don't need a cosmotology license. Does anyone know what those sites might be? thanks!
hi! i'm a newbie here i am a hair colorist in los angeles and i have tried almost eeeevery professional hair color out there to find the most vibrant and long lasting reds/violet. so far i like the Loreal Richesse but i can't find anything better. does anyone know who makes the best reds?? i have tried everything from permanent, demi, and to semi. nothing is thaat great. please let me know thank you!!
