Also not an expert, but I would like to add...Spunky Girl you mentioned cutting 1 inch every 2 months, while this may be good for normal trimming, if you are wanting to grow out your hair- cutting 1 inch every two months is not going to help since hair grows an average of 1/2 an inch per month . (It sounded like Kiwidude wanted to grow out)

Hey kiwidude. While I`m not a certified x-pert, I know this one. Yeh, for the basics, taking good care of hair is a must (ie good shampoo, conditioner, and deep oil/conditioning treatments twice a week or more, trims every 8 weeks). This will repair the hair shaft and build strength into the very scalp & top hair. No miracle shampoo will grow hair faster. Sorry. Hair vitamins, flaxseed oil, complex B, silica, protein, etc will help to build strength from the inside and it WILL improve chances of growing hair faster. I`d advise hair vitamins-ones with the above stuff. There`s a couple of hair vitamins hawked on various boards - Hair Formula 37 and Viviscal. I`ve had Hair Formula step I for a while and it really has changed the appearance of my hair. It probably has grown faster too, but I didn`t measure it when I started on the vitamins.
people will tell you to have your hair trimmed every 3-4 weeks. I can tell you that in my experience, even with coloring my hair, a 1 inch snip once every two months was good enough for me. I will tell you something else, don`t be afraid to let your scalp out in the sun a little bit, too! I`ve found that if I trail out into the sun a few times a week, my natural oils come out and my scalp feels stimulated. Don`t overdue it tho, or the sun will rob your scalp of too much oil. And it seems weird, but give yourself a scalp massage. Takes 5 minutes but you`ll love the results - really! Whoa, long answer, but hopefully you`ll get faster-growing hair.
