If it matches in texture when it's put in it can match after. Why would shampoo make someones hair puff up?  New growth can be relaxed while the fusion is still in. Extension hair also comes in kinky textures for people who have kinky hair and want to wear their hair natural.

Coarse black hair will puff up at the roots when shampoo especially when you have new growth this is why I feel it does not work for overly coarse black hair

GL is nice hair. I prefer DIY for the $ savings and the freedom to choose when and what hair I want to use.

I am using keratin bonded wefts from Amm with her Bohyme hair (new install today!) and I love this method. It is helping me grow out my short layers.

Fusion, keratin bonded, worked just fine in my hair and I'm black. Do you mean micro rings, shrinkies and links?

I do NOT charge a consultation fee. I have had clients not show up but for me, its all part of the business.
When i book the appointment, i simply say-
i do not charge for my consultaion, however all i ask is that you show up for your appointment, or call me if you cannot make it. Most times after i say that, they show up, or are polite enough and respect my time and call if they cant make it.
Typcially i work off of a cancelation list so i have other clients who want to come it. If i get enough notice, i can get someone else in.
I really try to treat others as i would like to be treated. I too would not pay for a consultation for anything either.

I have never paid a consult fee for hair, plastic surgery or for a lawyer.  Would never period.
 
I am not sure what exactly happened/well why is more like it.  The extentions went in fine( i had extentions SOCap brand)before.. and they started to fall out- i am not talking 4 or 5 maybe in 2 week time but like 10 one day 5 next, fine 4 more in bed etc.  I would braid my hair at night, bought the special brush for extentions, not put condition near the bonds, used the shampoo and supplies I was allowed to use etc.  I was so upset/disappointed that it would not make a difference for what she would have offered to do put more in, fix them or take them out. At that point i just wanted them out rather looking horrible.
 
But that is my experience and I had a good experience first around.  But I did love having the extentions. For now Im over it but i am sure ill want them again soon.

No extensions method is going to "make" hair grow.. There are many factors in hair growth all of which include good haircare in general..
 
The biggest con for Great Lengths is gonna be finding hair that is a match for your own texture.. From what I've seen Great Lengths does not have many options for Afro textured hair..
 
Personally I shy away from stylists who charge consulting fees.. Part of the reason I would want a consultation is to feel out as the stylist to see if this is a good "match" for me.. I dont want to pay a fee if there is a possibility that after the consultation I realize that they are not the stylist for me..

Actually if someone wants to charge me a $50 consultation fee I just choose from the many many other professionals who are willing to do a consultation w/o a fee. I've avoided people who charge these fees. It's THEIR loss, I'm the type of customer who will stay with someone I like forever and refer all my friends and acquaintances to them.

I understand time is money but you have to realize you'll be turning customers away with this fee. Comparing yourself to a doctor or a lawyer is irrational to say the least.

I don't charge a consultation fee, but I don't think it's out of line to charge a fee.   After all, for a professional, time is money and they do deserve to get paid for their time.  If you go to a doctor or a lawyer for a consultation about something, they will always charge you.
 
For me, the reason that I've been thinking about taking a credit card fee over the phone for consultations is that when I book my complimentary consultions when people call, about 50%  of the time they don't show up.  That's lost time and money to me, since I could have booked another service in that time slot.
 
I think GL has good hair and if the person who is installing them and taking them out is experienced, than it will probably be fine.  Just don't believe them if they say you can wear them for longer than 3-4 months.'
 
They are known to be pricey though.

Yeah the consult goes towards the price, but if I want more than one thats pricy. i'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience..what happend?

My consult was free for GL's extentions- ask if the $50's will be put towards the purchase of the extentions.   Are you aware of the cost?  Averages between $1500-$2000 for 3-4bundles of hair.
 
My experience was not good at all w/them but I do know other have had them and liked them.

A consultation fee is absurd. Also, it's important for them to match your texture. That hair seems to come in bodywave or straight, neither of which match my texture. I know people who love GL but the price is just stupid.
I wear one row double wefted that's sewn in. I love it.

I've heard a lot about GL both good and bad and really want to get them. I have ethnic hair and heard that taking them out can be damaging or they can make your hair grow. I know there is a lot of info on this already but can anyone let me know the pros and cons to getting them on black hair? Also why are some consultations free and others cost about $50? Thanks!
