I thought that video was the beginning of Star Wars, lol.  Seriously, you're brushing your sides correctly.  You may want to increase your brush time and wolf longer.

I always thought it was because people normally don't brush the sides
as much as the top and back. Then it could be because of the type of
cut you got before you tried to wave. [bald fades]
 
Just don't ask about the right. That is a mystery. But when it finally
