Assuming you have checked the water you shampoo with and found there is nothing irritating in it, it is possible you are allergic to some ingredient in the shampoo. It would be a good idea to try a hypoallergenic shampoo and see if your scalp condition inproves. One that I have had excellent results with is Aveda`s All-Sensitive Shampoo. It doesn`t have a medicinal odor and won`t dry out your hair. It balances your scalp and conditions the hair with plant extracts, helping to reduce tangles and add moisture and sheen.

My head is often very itchy. My scalp gets really red itchy patches and big flakes. I consulted my doctor who checked it. Nizoral shampoo helps but it makes my hair feel like Barbie`s. I never blow dry and wash my shoulder-length hair about twice a week. I always use conditioner and I find Abba creme-moist shampoo and Abba and pantene conditioners less irritating. I wonder if I am allergic to shampoo. I find any shampoo that has sodium lauryl sulphate in the first few ingredients as very irritating. Does anyone has any suggestions for me?
