Tarheelgal, Thanks for the details. You really are a gal with guts and strength. Good on ya girl. You have made me want to cut my hair - although I am still nervous and wondering how short to go. I am really bored with my hair and am going to change my style for the first time for years. I am going to find a style I like (short hopefully). I will let you know more on my thinking but I am going to do it soon. I am fed up with a middle parting "Morticia", mid back style. I just hope that I have the nerve to go nreal short. Keep in touch with suggestions. I quite like the innverted bob that was suggested for you. Luv Jackie

Thanks kds!

Jackie - I have to say, leading up to my haircut, I was both very nervous and excited. To be honest, I wasn`t sure I would be able to go through with it even when I go to the salon. Forunately, my hairdresser wasn`t quite ready for me when I got there, so I had a few extra minutes to get myself psyched up. Although I had some major butterflies, I just told myself that I was going to do it! Still, I had a lump in my throat as I told my hairdresser what I was thinking of doing. It helped a lot, though, that she was very encouraging. I trust her opinion and I doubt that I would have done it had she had any misgivings. After discussing what I wanted done, she washed my hair before taking me to her station. I had her turn my back to the mirror, because I couldn`t bear to watch! She first combed my hair into sections, then started cutting about midway between my chin and shoulders. It was really weird seeing several inches of my hair lying on the cape! She did the chin-length side first, which wasn`t too bad. However, I began to wonder if I had made a mistake when she started working on the short side. I felt very exposed having my hair cut over my ear like that! It all just felt so different. After she had finished cutting and blow-drying my hair, she asked me if I was ready to take a look and wheeled me around. I was really surprised by how different I looked - I was actually a bit stunned! I got up to take a closer look in the mirror and I really liked the way I looked - my hairdresser did a great job and I have to say that the style definitely suits my features. I really thought it would take me a while to get used to it, but that hasn`t been the case. If you`re thinking of going shorter, but are real nervous about it, you should consider getting it done in stages - that way you won`t have to deal with a drastic change if you don`t feel that you`re ready for that. If you really want to go short, though, I`d have to say, based on my newfound experience, just do it! I`m sure that between you and your hairdresser, you can find a perfect short style for your features. You have to go with what you`re comfortable with, but I have no regrets whatsoever and I was probably as nervous as anyone beforehand. Whatever you decide, good luck and let us know what happens!

Please tell us more details of a great story. I am thinking of cutting my one length mid back length hair and would like to know how you felt throughout. How did you feel as you got the salon and got into the chair? How did your hairdresser start to cut and how did you feel as she started and you had one side finished? Tell us all. I am thinking of going shorter than chin length with layers but would love to be brave enough to go shorter but I am worried that i will not have the nerve even as I sit in the chair and just get a trim. I would love to know more to give me strength! Well done girl Luv Jackie

Well, I did it - this morning I had my hair cut into an asymmetrical bob and I absolutely love it! It feels very weird (especially the side that`s cut over my ear), but I think it looks great! I almost feel like a new person! I was very nervous when I got to the salon, but my hairdresser was very encouraging - she told me she thought it would look great and that I should "go for it"! (She was probably just glad to see me try anything besides the same boring below-shoulder-length hair that I`ve had for years!) IMO, if you`re considering a major change, go ahead and just do it - if you`re like me, you`ll be glad you did! Thanks so much to those who made suggestions while I was considering the change!
