I have lightened my dark brown/black hair to light blonde numerous times. (And I've DONE it myself. so...) I've gone from dyed black to light blonde.
You should just talk to your hairdresser and not let them talk you out of what you want.
I am sure that lifting your light brown to a lighter blonde will NOT wreck havoc on your hair!
I like light brown hair with blonde highlights personally I think it looks hot...
Anywhoo I think you are safe to get your hair lifted more.
I do it to myself all the time. I do my roots about every 4 months or so, depending on when I get to town to buy some dye. And I use Blonde Dye overtop of my already processed hair everytime and it doesn't hurt it.... getting it done prof. will be a way safer. So if that's what you want You should go for it.

I've gone from super light blonde to very dark (with blonde) and then RIGHT BACK to BLONDE BLONDE again with NO PROBLEM. I have also gone from HEAVILY highlighted blonde to ALL OVER blonde and then back again. I have fine hair too which apparently is the most fragile (but it was OK). If you go to a pro and take care of your hair it should be fine.
I too have found that just because a salon is "high end" DOESN'T mean they're not going to screw up!
I used to get talked into things I didn't want as well -- not with hair but all kinds of other things. You just have to talk and act ASSERTIVE. Maybe you sounded wishy washy or unsure of yourself (even though you really weren't INSIDE)??? I would go in there with pictures and say "this is what I want." Don't ask them if they can do it or what they think (unless you truly want their opinion). ASSUME they CAN do it because they CAN do ANYTHING you want. On the flipside, I also would ask HOW they were going to do it, just to get the feel for whether or not they seem confident about being able to do it. Communication is a HUGE HUGE thing when it comes to hair. I have had SO MANY problems with that (between me and my hairdressers). I always take along pictures and I'll bring one of what I DON'T want as well. And I say things like "I don't want ANY gold in my hair." That way they hopefully get the right idea of what I want. If your colorist tries to talk you out of what you want, maybe go to someone else. Oh, another thing! What I started doing when I go to a new person is having a consultation FIRST. That way if you get a bad vibe you can move on.
Ok well I've had blond highlights in my hair for years as part of my constant struggle to lighten the look of my hair. My natural hair color can be best described as amedium brown, and my highlights have always been a meduim/light blond. I have recently switched hairdressers (due to the fact that I've moved several states away) and about 3 months ago went to this new place with the intention of foregoing my regular highlight touchup, to just and all over blonde color.
Of course when I went there, like a smuck I let her talk me out of it. Instead she lightened my base to a light brown and did the blonde highlights. It didn't look bad and was a lot lighter and closer to what I'd want than what I had previously been getting.
Now, 3 months later my natural hair color is growing in and I have dark roots 1-2 inches long. I have been putting off going back to the same place, I am a little ticked off she talked me out of what I was all psyched and set up to do, settling for a light brown instead of the blonde I wanted. Also I initally picked the most upscale place around here, figuring they could not screw up my hair, this is the 2nd hairdersser from this salon and I am now twice not happy with the results (although this time was much better than the first).
I am now not quite sure what I should do, I still very much would like to try a light blond color, (ash/champane, not sure what tone would best fit my skin but something LIGHT). Just getting my roots touched up to the light brown color would be easiest, but I'm not sure I will be satisfyed with it. The past 2 times I went in for color and 2 different girls both talked me out of it and I've regretted it afterward. I'm no virgin to color and between the light brown base and the blond highlights my hair looks like a very dark golden blonde, so I don't think it would be that big a difference, I'm already having my hair lightened as is now.
So my questions are, should I go for the blonde color I want nex time around? It seems to be what I always come back to.
And is it safe to do, having had my base lightened from med to light brown and highlighting done 3 months prior? My hair feels just as healthy now as it always has. I've had damaged and fried hair in the past (too much hair dryer/didnt take care of it as a kid) so I know it is healthy and not like that at all.
Also, would there be a problem since the bulk of my hair is color treated and 1-2 inches of roots are my natural color? I wouldn't dare try this at home but I assume a professional would know how to handle it?
Finally, how should I handle a pushy hairdresser again? I think long and hard about hair desicions, its not a snap decison. I've had it lightened before, no disasters, I don't see the problem with doing it all over if thats what I want.
thanks for reading this all, any advice, espically about going blonde over my already processed har? thanks!
