I actually want the clip ins I make to be really slim, so hopefully hand-tied will be good for that. Plus, I havn't been able to find the color/length/texture I want in machine tied yet

Its harder to use handtied wefts to make clip ins. Machine wefts are actually better IMO for clip ins. But yes you need to seal handtied wefts if you cut them. You can use a weft sealer on the entire track for long term security and to help prevent shedding, or a drop of nail glue on the place where you cut them just to prevent the cut edge from unraveling.
