One of the ladies on BHM refers to this as "funky locs"LOLLOLLOLLOLLOL... I've never experienced it in the many years I've worn sew-ins. But I know it is a potential issue for those wearing sew-ins.. I have a few tricks I've always used which works well to get my tracks dry.. After washing I usually sit outside to read a good book and let my hair airdry if the weather permits. If the weather or my time won't allow for this, then I would use a bonnet dryer to get the tracks completely dry. In the salon my stylist will also sit me under the dryer to make sure the tracks get completely dry..

Wow, I'm not sure I would be able to handle the itchiness and smell. I only have one track so perhaps that's why I don't experience that?? Who knows? I will eventually try two tracks so hopefully I won't experience what you're describing, Metalgirl.

I have worn both sew in wefts and individuals, (shrink links, micro rings, prohair) and I think that individuals are WAY more comfortable.  Most of my clients also opt to individuals  (a.k.a. 'indies') too.

First of all, if your hair is not strong to begin with, any type of extension can pull your hair out at the root, regardless of indies or wefts.  I have seen both scenarios.  With wefts, I have seen some traction alopecia (baldness due to the tension) whereas I have rarely seen that with the indie extensions, but it can happen.

From my personal experience of wearing a sewn in for 5  years (3 tracks), my head would get really itchy underneath the braids.

And it only gets better... you can't forget about the imfamous 'stink head'.   The wefts and braid takes a long time to dry, and they can develop a musty smell.  My husband has turned his nose up at me many a time due to the 'stink head' symdrome.

Wefts are more lumpy and not as comfortable on the head, and may be harder to conceal on thin, fine hair.

In defense of wefts, I do like the fact that you can get a lot of hair on the head with just a few tracks.  I like the fullness and the smooth results (not stringy like indies can be sometimes)

I guess I'm used to wefts because I totally don't notice this track BUT I do remember thinking the individuals were a lot more natural feeling for sure!

I wish I could do individuals on my own. I'm a crafty person too! I just can't get it right w/o getting stray hairs etc. How do you do it??? The tiffany system sounds GREAT! Can you use your own bulk hair for it?

I have a swimming pool at my house and swim all the time while wearing a full sew-in.. Swimming is not a problem at all with a full sew-in..

I really like my sew in but I don't have a full head, just one track and I LOVE it!!
It's tight the first day or two but not REALLY tight. I guess it's sore for the first two days. I remember with fusion my hair would be sore for the first week?? If you do fusion you'll be leaving your hair out and won't be using a closure, correct?

The sew in you're talking about is not only a different process but a whole different look, right? Do you need a full head of sew ins? I really couldn't tell you how an entire head of sew ins feels like but I know many people do it and have been doing it for years and love it. I agree with Bunny, if it's done correctly I think it's a safe method.

the THEORY is that with wefts, the weight is distributed across a wider section of scalp, and attaches to more hair, and is thereby pulls less on the roots.

The latest popular methods are sew-ins (which when done well are very safe and comfortable) and quite a few girls are trying tiffany twist's new bond for individuals. Its not a fusion technically though it is done the same way.

For swimming, I'd stay away from fusion or any type of adhesives, since the water and chlorine could mess with the bonds. Sew-ins or microlinks, if you were careful, would be fine, but I think a sew-in might be a little better since you wont' have to worry about individual sections.

I had a friend with sew ins and I guess the lady made them super tight and she had to remove them after 1 week...
Just be careful how tight they put them in...I'd stay away from fusion all together..
^..^

which is easier on the scalp?

I've never had a full head of sew ins. I remember the wefts I did have sewn in were REALLY tight at first, but I was also super new to exts at the time and not used to any scalp tension. It was a long time ago and I'm considering trying sewins again.

Just wondering which you think is softer on the scalp overall?

Strand by strand fusion, strand by strand shrinkies, or full head of weft sew ins with closure?

How hardy are a full head of sewn in wefts? As in can I go swimming with them regularly?

thanks for any replies
