I am looking into getting some skin wefts for my sister's wedding next month. I have a lot of chemical sensitivities though and am concerned about not being able to use the acetone or orange oil to remove them. Are there any other more gentle ways to get them out? Would using a straight oil (like olive oil or something similar) loosen them up enough to get them out? I *really* don't want to damage my natural hair so if they would be hard to get out without the acetone then I am not sure if this will work for me.
Thanks so much for your help! :)
For those sensitive to orange removers and have issues with acetone, try Super Solv
Super Solv is a Premium extra strength, non-oily adhesive and tape remover. One of the most effective solvent on the market, Super Solv is strong enough to use on stubborn build-up yet gentle enough to use on delicate lace fronts. It is also used in the medical and professional makeup industries because it is so safe and effective on sensitive skin.
ok thanks for all the tips! i might just put LG on each end of the tape like you said :) when it'll be done ill post pic hehe ill make a new post about it !
[EDIT] ah i have another LAST question ! :P, how much width the tape should be? 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 inch? thought having them cut around 1 1/2 to 4 inches wide (depending on the place its goind to be) [/EDIT]
i thank you again! :)

Most people are using the 'sandwich' method with the tape. So the tape is applied to the wefted hair and is folded over the track, so the tape encloses the weft of hair on both sides.
Apply your tape to the wefted hair, then just before attaching to your head you can apply just a tiny bit of LG to the side of the tape that you are putting against your head/root of your natural hair.
Some people may put just a dot of LG at both ends to prevent the edges from lifting. Some people may put a few dots of LG along the entire strip of tape, or they may put a very fine line of LG along the full strip of tape before applying to their hair (this is what I do)
ditto everything that oh*so*sassy said! If you intend to use LG to further secure the tape you only need a tiny bit on the side that attaches to your head, so the color shouldnt be a problem with being visable. If you really waant to color the LG you can, and rit is fabric dye. It only take sa very tiny amount of it to color the LG.
It wont hurt the tapes at all to use a blowdryer. I think its best to get the tapes dry well after washing.
ah nice thank you sooo much for answering so quickly ^^ im so super exited!!! my clip-on are still in great shape i almost just bought them , i wanted to try before doing something dratic and it happened that i love it hehe and everyone is telling me that it looks awsome on me ^^ i have pink extension too that i plan to put in.. ahh this is so great!!
oh but i have a stupid question.. what is Rit dye?... im sorry english is my second language :( is it dye for clothe that comes in powder?
oh and i have another question, i just noticed that Supertape is also doing Satin Thin Stick, they are less than 1/2 in wide and 3 in long, do you think its a great idea or am i better with larger tape (maybe 3/4?) and cut them myself?
[EDIT] oh and what's the care of thos type of extension? does it mather if i blow dry the tape? will it melt the glue? because if i let my hair dry naturally they tend to wave and i HATE wavy hair XD.. well on me XD [/EDIT]
korinsama: I see this questions is directed at Sherrie, but I may be able to help some... You can certainly take the clips off of your clip-ins and add the tape to the wefts, You would just cut tapes to fit horizontally along the wefts, and you're good to go. You will not need to buy new hair if the hair from your clip-ins is still in good shape. You will install the tapes extensions much as you do your clip-ins. The tapes generally do last 4-6 weeks, as long as you keep conditioner away from the tapes. You can add LG to further secure them. You can DYE LG by using Rit dye. just a very small amount of black RIT in LG will turn it to black, and then you will not have the LG show in your dark hair. There are also some black food colorings available (especially around Halloween time) that works also- but they do not last as long.
I am sure Sherrie will chime in with any additional info. Good luck!!
i just went accross all of the 3 links you posted and i have now a few question and i hope you'll be ble to asnwer me :)
first thing first, i have those clip in extension thta i really love but i hate de the feeling of clips and the fact that i have to redo it like every 3 days.. so i read the first link you post, the one that explain how to do extension with tape by cutting the tape etc etc, so i was guessing that i could prolly take the clip off my extension apply the tape like in the demo and cut the seamed part right? will that work fine? so i wont need to buy another set of extensions ehehe
another question is, i really want them to last for a long period of time, 4-7 weeks maybe? i read in the hairextensions101 that we can add a little bit of LG on the tape to make them hold longer... my problem is, my hair are dyed black, reallyyyy black so is the hair extension but LG is clearly well.. gold :P is there a way it can be black? or does black glue exist? [EDIT] i just seen the product called Vapon No-Tape on hairextension101.com that says it goes great with supertape and such and it seems invisible, it this product great? [/EDIT]
putting extension with tape really seem easy and all, and i want to do it myself (with the help of a friend) if its ours first time will it be simple?
I was on the phone with a hairpiece company called Reprieve. Anyway, they are a division of Fashion World. Well, Fashion World makes Bohyme. Anyway, I was chatting with the lady on the phone and the we got talking about skin wefts. The lady said that Fashion World is in the process of making skin wefts using Bohyme hair! At the moment, she was wearing one of the prototypes, and she said it's perfect, Bohyme quality hair and a dense enough weft for good coverage but yet still the PU is not thick.
There's no real word of when they may begin selling them though. I hope soon!
Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure of my color. I was going to ge ta recommendation of where to order and then buy a color ring from them to find out for sure. On another thread, some people said that they thought I was a 5 or 6. Do you think it would be hard to get good quality ones in that color? I *really* want them to look great since I will have to be in hundreds of pics that day!
Tahnks again for all of the help!!!
ETA: Here's some pics of my sad hair right now (posted them on the original thread that I posted but I guess I'll put them here too ) in case that will help with color and store recs...thanks again!
It really depends on your color. There are some good options for skinwefts in the darker colors. Its the lighter colors that are harder to find good quality hair.
Bummer...I didn't realize that good quality skin wefts were hard to come by. I've been browsing around looking at all of my options but have no idea what is good.
I tried searching for reviews on here but the search feature keeps giving me an error message for some reason. I would LOVE to hear about them if you don't mind! :)
If no on has a good source for the skin wefts, I guess I'll go with the makeshift seamless..thanks for the tip!
Thanks for all of the help! I *really* appreciate it! :)

Someone here liked extension warehouse's skin wefts I can't remember who right now. I don't think they used the blondes. I know someone who says that my mane attractions sells good quality hair. I'm waiting on the longer lengths ,22" skin wefts to come in before I buy. I'll let you know what I think. I'd be willing to split an order with someone if you want to try it or you can see if she sells smaller quanities. I won't be needing 9 feet of wefts.

I wish we had more options for seamless wefts. To date I have not found anything of decent quality in lighter colors of skin wefts. Metalgirl I would certainly buy a good quality skin weft from you! I absolutely LOVED the skin wefts Ive tested, just hated the poor quality hair that was attached to them!
The makeshift seamless wefts that I do are NOT as invisible or undetectable as a skin weft, but its the next best thing for me. Works well for my crown area, and I dont have any problems with them falling apart when I remove them. Here is the picture of them after I removed them. I could easily reapply new tape right below the old tape and trim off the old, and I would only lose 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of the length.
I totally agree on the caulks - there are speciality 'green' caulks (and other building materials :)) that are called low-VOC, which means they dont' give off toxic gases, but they're hard to come by and would NEVER hold up super long term for the odd variety of punishment done to materials by extension wear-ers. I was looking into the greener ones for my wig shop so I didn't have to hand-tie all my wefts, but I didn't find any acceptable alternative :( Though aquarium silicone does come close and many might find it acceptable for making non-sew wefts.
I've been using a lot of skin wefts lately. New Concepts Hairgoods has great quality skin wefts with pretty good density. However you need to be licensed and have an account with them. Their 18" skin wefts (5-12inch pieces) sell for $199 and their 22" sell for $220.
I talked to them about giving me a wholesale discount if I buy in bulk. They offered a small percentage off, so I'm going to try to negotiate more with them. If I can get a decent wholesale price, I may order an inventory and become a reseller.
As for overseas skin wefts, it's really hit and miss. I did an order with Jacksun, and the first batch was great and he made them heavy density like I requested. The second batch was horrible. I had put them on about 5 different clients, and all of them called me to complain about terrible matting. I'm still searching for a reliable overseas supplier.
Like most of you, I've fooled around with making my own skin wefts from loose hair. The various glues (epoxy or caulking) is super toxic and I would be worried that over time it would be absorbed into the skin and cause problems.
yes i agree with you Bunny with that....ive used the self-made seamless, and when you remove them they just fall apart (i guess if you were carefull you could catch the hair as you remove it and trim it off from the top...but who the hell is that carefull not me!)
