That's a great link. Unfortunately I have short/medium length hair. So, that one doesn't really apply to me.
How is not trimming your ends working so far? I have tried that and I'm not sure which method works best. If I get it trimmed the stylist behaves for the first few times then goes scissor happy and ends up cutting off 3 or more inches.
If I could find a way to prevent breakage, I don't think I'd have to get my ends trimmed as often.
The baggie works great. A lot of the members on BHM do it religiously and some haven't had a trim in a year. I've been doing it for over 8 months now and I can personally tell you that it works. I still have a problem being around scissor though, esp. when I straighten my hair. I trim to keep my ends thick because I'm obsessed with full ends but I haven't experienced split ends like I use to. I did six trims last year alone before I started bagging everyday.
Hey digitaldiva, I really wish that when my hair started getting healthier I stop trimming because I would have so much length right now! Keeping to a protein treatment schedule has helped prevent me from trimming and since I stopped trimming I have held on to 2in' which has helped me edge past APL, however I do search and destroys faithfully lol I go through sections of hair to search for split ends and cut them off. What I noticed was when my hair was breaking I would get a trim and it would be good for a few days but then it would start breaking again ...sometimes trims don't get to the hairs that are breaking. Have u done a heavy protein treatment such as Apoghee for damaged hair?
I did a Apoghee treatment this past weekend. I always know when I need a trim because I get snags when combing and a little breakage. Once I get a trim that doesn't happen at all. But you guys know I'm terrified of going back to the salon to get a trim.
I loved that "trim your own ends" link that was posted last week. I am going to try that next week sometime. Parting your hair in sections before trimming. We'll see. But then again. My hair is in a bob and I don't want to mess up the style so what do I do?

If you rollerset, you could clip the ends before you roll; or you could separate the hair into four sections and go thru each section by parting and clipping.

Here are some trimming instructions I found on LHCF, I haven't had a chance to do this yet because of a area I am trying to grow with no trims. http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim/
I don't want to cut it into a style. I just want to trim off the split ends when I have them. I'm tired of stylist cutting off 2 inches or more of my ends when I tell them not to. How in the world do you trim the back?

Well, I wouldn't really attempt to give myself a stylish cut, but when I see split ends, I just snip them off one by one. You have to have reeeeally sharp scissors though, or else the hair will just split again.
But yeah, I'm a little OCD about split ends, lol... they gots to go!

I am seriously trying to do a lot of my own hair care. I always end up with a botched freakin' hair cut whenever I get it done. It's like they always take off too much. Last time 3 inches of my hair! I'm terrified of going to a stylist to get my ends trimmed. If I could do it myself then I really wouldn't have to go. . ANY advice would be helpful.
Thanks Gang!
