Its def. a pretty color but I can see how on the wrong person it wouldn't look right. I think using the dish soap/clarifying shampoo should lighten it pretty quick.
I just thought I'd share a picture of my current red. It's not a bad shade, it just doesn't suit me and is not at all what I was going for. You can't tell so much how it looks when the light hits it. Hopefully I can get thi spicture on here with no problems.
Yup, dish soap (something gentle like dawn) will help do the trick. Just make sure you condition afterwards. I'm doing the same type of thing myself - , I'd stop using color protecting products, let it fade a bit naturally, then do a demi/semi color over in a more netural brown shade to eliminate any more drastic red tones. I'd try to wait to do that though to avoid damage - even dying to a darker shade can cause damage because it is altering the hair cuticule, but it is far less damaging than going blonde.
The color I was dying from was more of a light brown with a little golden/red highlights. I was told by a friend to wash with dishsoap to strip some of the red then color over with a light-med ash brown. would this actually work?

wash with a clarifying shampoo (it will strip some of the red out very easily, but its drying, so condition afterwards) i'd also try using brunette emphazizing products, like John Frieda - it will help highlight the brown tones - or you can get a toner that will de-emphazize the red tones. You can go to Sallys to pick those up - they can also give you advice about what ones to use if the girls on here can't.
what color were you dying from? if you had a fairly light shade it would turn out more vivid than it shows on the box. Personally i don't use pre-boxed colors because the results are more unpredictable than if I choose the shades and level of developer I am using myself. just a tip for the future (its also cheaper in the long run;) )
I decided to try to get to my natural haircolor which is a med. brown with red tones. I bought a box of Feria in the shade called Brilliant Bordeaux. I loved how it looked on the box but it did not turn out at all like it was supposed to. It's now a fiery red with no brown. When the light hits it, it lets off a very unnatural red color. What can I do to tone down the red and get brown in it with some red tones?
