Help, my hair won`t grow anymore!

Wow, it`s great to find a site like this finally! My hair is very thick, curly/wavy, and used to be very long. I cut it shorter about 6-7 years ago then after that I let it grow again, however, it seems to have stopped growing. I decided to let my bangs grow out and they`re only down to the middle of my neck now, even after all these years, and the rest of my hair is about a foot longer. Is this something hereditary, or is there some problem that`s keeping my hair from growing longer? It`s been the same length for at least 3 years now. I would love to have it really long like I used to. Don`t get me wrong - I love the thickness and that it`s curly(and sometimes I don`t love the curl!LOL) but I just want to grow it as long as I can before the time comes to cut it shorter and leave it that way. Anyone have a suggestion or answer? I thank you kindly and it`s great to be here!
