If I've read correctly, she takes walk-in for extensions. That is amazing. She must keep a lot of hair in stock. Is she quick?

I paid $1500 for GL's then the tip and supplies.  They lasted not so long
I paid LESS than $700 w/tip and supplies for SOCap and they stayed in longer- and liked them more

$2800 for extentions- good lord girl-
I think your head will be fine- you mentioned it was sore- your head and hair have to get use to the weight etc.

welcome to the "long hair' club!!

I find that the nape on many people is just a sensitive area and prone to itching.  You may have to have the bottom nape row removed it it doesn't become more comfortable in the next few days.

I think the $2800 is a lot of money for extensions.  Granted you have a super full head of extensions in (the average person wears 200 strands), but that price seems like a lot.

I can't believe no one said this yet...Pictures!! We need to see pictures!!

As far as the itching, I always get it too. Mine is the same, usually on the bottom part where I found I can't put as much hair in, I need to take more of my natural hair, and space the locs further apart. It does get better, but even down the road you will have some occasional itching. I never put anything on it, because it's usually not too bad, but I realize it's usually when I have my hair up (like at work all day) and when I let it down and scratch like a flea infested dog for a few minutes, then I am fine!

I know, sexy.

I think their ( JC Penny) Pricing is pretty standard since they scan with a bar code thingy. I guess it would matter if they have an extensionist on hand. Still $200 for touch ups are enormous! I had the itching for about a week and every now and again I get it, especially if I am do for a wash. sea breeze and witch hazel did help. Also be really careful about conditioning, do not condition any where near the locs they will loosen and slip. I try to wash every three or 4 days taking it easy on the products, If you plan on flat ironing do not make it a habit it will ruin your hair fast. I normally will not flat iron in summer months due to humidity, but winter time you get a few days out of it. Also be careful not to pull your hair up in a tight pony tail it will cause trauma on the bonds as well. Sleep with a low pony tail or bun.

Wow! Only $500, that is awesome! I wonder if that was just a random JC Penny person in your area, or if all of their salons do it? Anyone know? Where do you live?

I haven't lost any yet (it's been about 6 days), but the itching is HORRIBLE! I'm going to try the witch hazel tonight, but I am hoping they will loosen up in another couple of days. I don't think they are too tight...they don't seem to be, anyway. From what I've read on here from others experiences, it didn't seem to me like she used too little hair in the loc, either, so I don't know what the deal is.  Sourgirl, how long did yours itch?

My extensionist won't charge me for touch ups or problems until I go back in 6-8 weeks for her to move the Locs up, at which point she charges $100/hour, and she said it will probably take 2 hours! Errr...

The hair is really pretty...It's Hairlocs hair, and while I'm not an experienced extension person, it is soft and silky. We'll see if it stays that way!

Thanks so much for the Maryland recommendations, ladies! I will check some of them out!

Hey BG, I just had a similar system installed and I did experience itching, but it got better over time. After two weeks I started to lose bonds sometime 3 or 4 a day. I called my stylist and she took care of it right away. She reinstalled new bonds and tightened up the loose ones. We ordered some silicone micro rings which I have heard stay in better. I only paid with hair and installation and tip $500. There was one girl who gave me a price of $2000 and im glad I shopped around. Believe it or not I went to JC Penny salon. I trusted it because they have their name out there and she didnt charge me one cent to fix the problem. She is charging me $50 for maintence every 6 weeks.

Hey again,
Valencia's very good and inexpensive but unless things have changed, she works from her home and it's a smoker's home. When I went to her I would have to shower and wash my hair as soon as I got home. To me the price was worth it but I know it's a turn off for some people. She only installs the fusion, she doesn't do hair services, you'd have to go to someone else.

Hi B-girl,
The ones in the back also may be too close and pinching or it could be that the extension hair is to heavy, and pulling your natural hair. What did your extensionist say? Have her fix it. Malibu's right you may need many more rows. What brand hair did she use? Did she buy it or did you bring your own.
I haven't used their services in over a year so you'll have to call and check for their prices.
Eva at Ocular Hair Designs in Clinton Maryland, PG County does them and fusion. I don't remember the cost but I think it's around $700-$800. http://www.ocularhairdesigns.com/hair-services/weaves-replacements.html#extensions

Reniece in Rockville Maryland does fusion but I don't know how soon you'll be able to get an appt. she stays booked. I think she charges about $560-$600??? for full service, shampoo, blow dry, installlation, cut, style. http://reniece.com/

Valencia in Laurel Maryland does fusion. When I went to her she was charging $400 for a full head. She doesn't charge per strand she charges by amount half head full head and I think highlights. http://home.earthlink.net/~fatdrproduction/welcome/

Thanks for the feedback! I have been reading a lot about the sew in kind, and it sounds pretty neat. I wasn't aware that it could blend better, hmmm...maybe when my Hairlocs hair isn't usable anymore, I will go with that if I can find someone in my area to do it.

I wouldn't mind more of my hair being cut off for the blend, I guess I need to go back to her and ask her to razor it more? It's really not too bad, I am just not an expert with the flatiron yet, I think once I get better with it, my blend will be better. I would love to do it all wavy, but then do I wave my real hair, too, or just the extension hair? I know, I have a lot of questions!

FYI, I really struggled with the tip thing...I ended up giving her $150. I know that doesn't seem like much, since it's only a bit above 5%, but it took her about 4 hours to do, and I KNOW the hair didn't cost more than $1000 (probably more like $500, maybe less!), so I figured she made a ton of money doing it anyway! Any opinions?

Malibu, the only reason my husband went for it is I quit smoking, and I'm spending all of my old cig money on this!! Good motivation not to start again, I could never afford both!

Hmmmm... well I guess price is all relative. My husband would probably file for divorce if I spent $2800 on hair extensions and this would be memissyou with hair extensions of course.

I wore clip ins for a year and now I do the sew in method. You may want to consider that because it's a whole lot cheaper and you get better coverage with a weft method (since you have thick hair it might blend better too)

As far as the mullet, you may need another row. How much hair do you want to cut to get it to blend??

The itching I'm not sure about. I've heard other people experience itching. It could be an initial thing and it will go away. Some people say witch hazel helps.

How much do you tip on a $2800 bill?

Hi everyone,
I have been reading the extension board for a few weeks now, and have gotten so much information from all of the posts! I got HairLocs put in last Thursday, and have various questions, if anyone would be so kind as to respond!

First of all, background: I have very thick, pretty heavy blondish-brown hair that came right below my shoulders. I have ALWAYS wanted super-long hair, but it seems my hair just wouldn't grow past a certain point.

In any case, I got 20" Locs put in last week, about 280 of them. It is unbelieveable how well it matches my haircolor, but I've got a few issues:

1. The back of my head at the very bottom itches like CRAZY! It almost kind of hurts. I've had a friend check out my scalp, and it is a bit pink around a few of the locs, but it's not cut up or anything...Is this just something I have to get used to?

2. With my hair being so thick, I think my blend is not too well done, andI'm afraid I have a bit of the "mullet" or "mushroom". I think I might be being super picky; I went back to my install person 3 days after she put them in and had her blend my hair some more; she also added another row of Locs. Anyway, any tips/tricks on blending natural hair into extension hair? I just bought a Chi flattening iron, so hopefully that will help...

3. Any fun styles you super-long haired girls do? Honestly, it's kind of hard with the Locs to do fun updo's, not because they show, but because it seems like my jaw clips gets caught in the Locs, which is no good.

4. I like my install person, but I paid $2800 to get these installed, and will pay another $200 every couple of months for maintenance. Is that just crazy? Can anyone recommend an extension person in Maryland? I thought that wasn't ridiculous, considering I got a $2200 quote from a Great Lengths person, and an $1800 quote from a Cinderella Hair person, but reading this board, it seems like I got robbed! I do have really, really thick hair....

Any feedback here is much appreciated!
M
