Well let me add this then.. I know you
really want to believe your recruiter, but your recuiter CANNOT predict
what the Marines will do with you once you have enlisted and you are
shipped off to bootcamp..
My stepson is a Marine and works in the supply room. He is on his
SECOND tour in Iraq as we speak.. He was sent to Iraq almost straight
out of bootcamp even though he was told that he probably would not be
sent to Iraq until he had a year in the Marines.. Well SIX MONTHS after
being assigned to his 1st base (in North Carolina) after bootcamp, he
was sent off for a 12 month tour in Iraq.
When he returned, he was told that IF he had to go back that it
wouldn't be any EARLIER than 18 months after his previous tour.. Well
guess what?? We're month 9 into his SECOND tour in Iraq. He was BARELY
back a year when they shipped him BACK to Iraq.. AND he is not working
in the supply room.. The Marines have him working as an MP for
this tour.. That's right an MP! They put him through a quickie training
when he got there..
So I know you want to believe your recuiter, but the fact of the matter
is that this is a war time situation, and what the Marines tell you
pales in comparison to where they decide they need you.. They will tell
you (as they switch reels on you) that you signed up to serve your
country not for a specific job title. I wish you luck, but MsHoney is
right, your recuiter isn't NOT gonna tell you everything.. Mostly
because they can't KNOW everything..
and yes they do send women to the hot spots.. My best friend ran an
Army Patriot missle squad in the FIRST Gulf war.. Another friend of
mine is a fighter pilot in the Air Force.. She most DEFINTELY will tell
you that they do send women to the hot spots..
Good luck.. Boorah!

I agree with MsHoney on this. It just won’t be practical during basic to have any kind of hair extension. It might actually interfere. I would just let it go for now and chances are they wont cut it so short you have to wait all that long and then get the extensions when its better timing like after graduation.

you should be okay then but don't believe ANYTHING the recruiter says very few of them are completely honest. There was a BIG scandal a few years back because they were lying to the kids to get them to join and some other cruddy stuff too. Some were making the kids lie and cheat on their tests and they got busted at bootcamp. Watch your back.

they sent a girlfriend of mine to Iraq (Air Force) after she was in a year I think. She said it smelled so bad that she threw up everyday. She was 21. So yes, the do send girls, maybe not to the front line but they still have to watch for snipers and suicide bombers at the camp.
You don't need a scholarship you can get financial aid and community college is dirt cheap and you can still get out of it, it's not too late. But I'm not your mama so I'll mind my business.

don't do it. get a scholarship. Or go to community college. It's to dangerous and the benefits aren't all that. You'll make more money in the civilian world. Save up your money and take vacations from work. I don't want to seem unpatriotic I love my country but... please find another way. The send the new recruits out to this Iraqi Occupation, not war, first. I MADE my husband retire.

I hated it. He would leave before dawn and wouldn't get home until after 9pm I told him he had to set some ground rules with them because we were missing church which was the last straw. I got so mad at him that I didn't speak to him for over a month, I am not lying, not a single word!!!
Why are you joining now???

You aren't going to be able to maintain extensions while in boot camp, how long is it 2 months? You're going to be exhausted and you aren't going to want to waste your time doing your hair. Will they let you wear cornrows? You want something very low maintenance.

alright; i am joining the marines and they cut your hair right above your shoulders if you got short hair or you can tie it back if you got long hair. i have close to short hair and i dont want my hair cut that short cause it doesnt look good at all and my hair doesnt grow that fast, so i was wondering if maybe hair extensions would be a get way to have long hair to tie back. there is alot of phyiscal activitiy and i dont know if it would a good idea or not to get some. what do you guys think?
