Thanks for your replies! :) I found Paula`s website, cosmeticscop.com, and found alot of info there. So thanks Lyris. I`ve stopped brushing my hair as much but haven`t noticed that much difference. My hair is pretty thick and gets tangled pretty easily so unfortunatly I do have to brush and comb it a couple times a day to keep it looking nice.
I personally dont brush my shoulder length hair all that often. Its about 13inches long which is a few inches below shoulder length and I mostly use a wide-toothed comb. Works just was well as a brush. Gets the tangles out better than a brush IMO and its less damaging. I`ve only used a brush once this week (like 20 minutes ago) because I left my comb in the car. The brush I use is a natural bore-bristle brush. They are gentler on the hair than the plastic ones but if you have very very thick hairplastic harder bristles may work better. My hair is a little more than medium thickness and the brush needs to have a little force behind it to go all the way through my hair to get all the parts but if you brush from the top and bottom its just fine.
I just bought the "Don`t Go Shopping for Haircare Products without Me" book, written by Paula Begoun, a veteran consumer advocate reporter. She`s considered pretty reputable in the field. Her take on brushing: don`t do it anymore than you need to. She says brushing stresses and can break down the cuticle, ultimately making your hair rougher and more prone to damage. Of course, if you didn`t brush it at all your hair would become tangled and even more prone to tearing.
On a side note, this book is actually pretty informative--it gives reviews on a bunch of salon/drugstore products and what really does work for your hair. I bought mine for $3 used on amazon. Bye!

I brush my hair about 3 to 4 times a day. I know pulling/jerking on hair while you brush it can be very damaging but is brushing it alot bad for it also? Or does it matter?
