" I don't see people saying the same things when a man has super long hair...they are not harrassed about their sexuality."

This is so not true. When I first met my husband he had hair down to his waist and mine was short up to my ears.We were walking in a store and some guys commented,"What's with the long haired dude with the short haired chick?"
(Of course I HAD to comment to him that if he had a problem he didnt have to look at us!)
Also, some of the guys at work used to tease my husband a bit for his long hair.

I have had long hair the last few years, but due to an unfortunate event had to cut it short this year...and mind you,not even really THAT short, like a chin length bob.I was shocked at some comments I got~even from my own mother! Why on earth would you do that? I hope you're letting it grow again? You had such pretty hair, what happend?

People everywhere have opinions~be it long or short. And those opinions are NOT fact.It is merely their preference, and since I'm not trying to please them, but myself,I rarely let what they say bother me.

We must remember when reading messages boards or forums like this one, that opinions are not fact, and just because someone says something is true, that doesn't make it so.

The saying "All women look better with long or short hair" is always false.  Short hair is not always butch, look at Sharon Stone, short hair is not always cuter, look at Liv Tyler.  Now these are my opinions, not facts.

I try to never take anything personal when it is posted on a blog or forum.  My motto is "if you are happy, I'm happy"

I just went short from hair down my back and I love it! I did it to go blonde. It's been a week and so far one coffee barista called me sir what a moron. I walk around with low cut shirts, big earrings and perfume, and often wear skirts. he was just an idiot (NOT because he is a coffee barista just because he thinks short=butch). Another shorthaired girl on line rolled her eyes at me in commiseration. Aside from that, hubby (who loves it) says all the guys stare lol so I don't think butch is an issue with short hair.

I will never go long again, it's a pain in the toosh. I love my short hair!

Hi Bob -

LOL - yeah I've read some of your posts over in that "other" forum. Wink   I'm shocked to see you here!

Anyway, it's not the dislike of a hairstyle that makes someone not openminded, it's the "catcalling", etc. (sorry if I didn't make that clear in my original post).  People will have their opinions, it's just when some express them they should use a little tact.  That's all....

This is my first visit to this forum in many moons. I'm just in a quixotic mood today. Leadfoot, I don't think a dislike for particular hairstyles has a thing to do with open-mindedness. It's just like some prefer red and others blue.
I'm someone who LOVES long hair on women, and is usually pained when a woman with tresses cuts, but I appreciate and admire well-cut short hair (to an extent) sometimes. But, there is a sizeable minority of guys and  some gals, even many who are not particularly interested in hair, who just *hate* short hairdos on women. Any woman. I hear comments all the time which would be rude to even repeat.
I've known a few people, mostly women, come to think of it, who profess that *long* hair is unprofessional, immature, dowdy, etc. Esp. after a certain age. I think some may be just jealous, but their comments can be just as ugly and nasty.
So, it's just a fact of life that whatever style you choose, esp. an extreme one in either direction, there will be catcallers. Best, Bob Smile

I find women with short hair very sexy.  To me women with confidence are sexy.  Women with short hair (to me) show confidence, that they are not relying on their hair for sexiness.  It also (I think) brings out other attractive features (eyes, neck, cheekbones...)

When I think of a woman with short hair, I think fun loving, care free, and somewhat adventurous.  I also think that a woman still looks "femine" with short hair, even the girls that have gone for the drastic cuts like Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Demi Moore, Sigourney Weaver, etc.  Anyone who thinks that Alyssa Milano (or for that matter any woman out there with a short crop) looks like a lesbian or even worse, a boy, has a very narrow mind IMHO.

There are just too many people out there who cannot keep their hair opinions to themselves and therefore many people who do change are  victims and those who do not change out of fear are also victims.

It's not so much an issue of long or short because there's always someone out there who will hassle someone about what they have done to their hair.

I feel people should be free to choose their own hair without fear of negative comments.

There are always reasons given why a person shouldn't have the style they want.

Age, face shape, gender, body height, weight.

Everytime something is "in" there are rules attached to it. Even if an article is completely for it they'll have some stylist giving a snobby opinion about how it should and shouldn't be done.

I am a male with long hair and I'm staying that way. Because that is what I want for me. I just wish I didn't have to feel like I have to defend that right. And I wish no one else had to defend their hair choices either.

My wife had some problems like that when she got a pixie 4 years ago...she did pretty much the same thing as you...hers was bra length and she got the "alyssa milano" pixie...

There were a few co-workers who had the nerve to ask her if she had "gone dyke" and "switched teams". She was appalled and actually reported one of them to a supervisor.

I hope I don't offend anyone, but to me when I think of "butch" i can picture what people mean...but that is so much more than hair...it is demeanor, attitude, personality, and the way they carry themselves.

I think there are lots of short cuts that are very flattering for women and plenty feminine looking. I don't see people saying the same things when a man has super long hair...they are not harrassed about their sexuality.

As for your new cut, I love it. My wife has mentioned going super short again because she has some color damage. If she decides to do so, I will certainly show her your style...hope you don't mind. Thumbs up for you from me.

My two cents.
We all know what opinions are like...and I've got both!

So, I've been Googling around looking for more hair ideas for my new short 'do.  I was reading through somerandom forum sites and was a little shocked at the reactions that people have to women with short hair, such as they don't look feminine, they look "butch", etc. etc.

I guess I'm just a little shocked in this day and age that people aren't a little more open minded?  I'm sure a lot of women hold on to their long hair maybe longer than they should for this very reason.  Perhaps that is why so few of us go short?

Just curious as to if anyone has had to deal with this kind of bull?  Personally, I've only had short hair for 3 weeks, but so far so good! Thumbs%20Up
