I`ve got hair like that. The reason it gets wavy at the bottom 6-8 inches is because most of the time I`ve got it up in some updo that the ends get wrapped around, and when I loosen the do, the ends tend to have ripples. Another reason is my ends slide and rest on the outslope of my butt and clothing and it causes the ends to curl up.

Or she sets her hair to get curl just at the ends. I know a couple of women with long hair that set it just to the ears. This results in a smooth crown area and curl on the ends.
OR she just used a curling iron on the ends.
Lots of "maybes". Perhaps you will get the chance to ask her one day. I`m sure we would all be interested in the answer.
maybe she got it permed awhile back. I used to have mid-back length hair and I got it permed and after awhile the top went flat and the bottom stayed wavy-though who knows...

I saw a pretty, smart-looking girl on campus yesterday (WHY? oh WHYYYY wasn`t she in one of my CLAAAASSES?! :D) ) and she had gorgeous brown hair down to about "classic length" - on her rear end that looked like it had never been cut. What was interesting, and I think I noticed this before, was that most of her hair was straight but, let me guess, the last fifth or sixth of its length or so was wavy. Is it normal for hair to get wavy (or to coarsen) as it gets long?
