Also sourgirl i think you dont have to try pre-tipping yourself if you go that route. You could probably either mail the hair out to a vendor that does that or even find a salon that does hair extensions and they could probably do it for you. Might be worth looking around. I wish the sew ins had just worked out better darn it. Its a good method once you get it to hold.
Have you considered using a do it yourself method, such as adhesive tapes (protac, airflex tapes, etc.)? That way the wefts could be placed similar to how they were with your sew-in, but you could install them (or have a friend help) in your own time. Sorry to hear you had such a negative experience with the sew-ins.
I am keeping the hair, I don't want to try to pre tip the hair because I am in experienced and dont want to ruin it. it is very hard to find a good versatile hair extensionist in my area unless I want to travel and thats hard do to my work week.
I have beautiful remi hand tied wets, that guess are out the window. the hair I have for the micro links I am not a fan of but I guess I will have to make do.
So sorry you are going through so many challenges finding a great system for you. I am surprised you can't reuse your hair? I spent many hours yesterday and last night with a good friend of mine, Barbara Lhotan, who is a Paul Mitchell trainer & a hairdresser for over 25 years. She was one of the first to go to Great Lengths school and paid many thousands for the training. She also does SoCap and several other methods. Now she uses various kits (Academy Hair is one of several she uses in her salon).
Last night she showed me how to do sew-in braids, rings and pre-tipped glue fusion with the hot tool.
She told me she reuses hair even when she does weaves.
In fact, last night she had some ClipX extensions and she snipped the clips off the ends, dipped them into some hot glue and created new pre-tipped strands. Right in the bathroom of her room at the Fairmount Hotel where she is attending a hair color show.
Yesterday Billy did a tape install on Angie. She wanted some fuschsia pink highlights on the sides. He had a few strands of fuschsia but they were on clips. He snipped the hair off the clips, trimmed them at the top and then pressed them into the double sided tape. It worked great.
I am wondering if you wouldn't be able to reuse your hair if it is beautiful and you love it? There must be some way that you could?

That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)
kristie, I got the three wefts of Russian sewn in back On July 7th so im just over the 2 month mark now. I did have one tightening back in early August but it really didnt need it yet. It was just a tightening and not a complete take down.
It still feels snug now but I think I will go for a complete take down on Sep 22nd. Im sure it will still be fine by then but I should probably get it taken down and all the dead hair removed and my scalp washed up just for hair health reasons. But no slippage, nothing loose, no problems. I have fine hair but its a little on the rough side just due to past damage and I dont always use conditioner because it weighs the hair down (speaking of when Im not wearing extensions). the roughness might be what helps it stay in longer on me. I will discuss it with my sew in lady, Nancy, when I go. I LOVE her she is a great gal personally and professionally. I will let everybody in on what she is doing to make this work on fine, caucasian hair. or probably any hair for that matter but she has a mixed bag of clients as word has gotten round shes the bomb. She refers to her sew in technique as "surgery". She's a riot lol.
Well here is the thing , I work 60 hours a week and it is hard to keep going to the shop for 2 hours a week on my only day off. The first install was tight but the braids were way to bulky. The second install was a very thin braid that didnt last more then 5 days. I only wash my hair once a week and i hate doing it that little. I sleep on a very low pony tail too. I was thinking of fusion around the time of my wedding but I need something reasonable in between then. So I figured this time take all the tracks out, trim my hair and add a few micro's for fullness. I am keeping my good hair of course for a later date, but the stick hair I have is kind of crappy so I figure put some strands in for fullness and I could care less if she cuts them to match my length of my real hair. Then figure out what to do when I get closer to the big day.
TWO MONTHS????!!!!??? Are you kidding me? WOW! No tightening or anything in that period? My girl left the day after my install for a month so this is my ultimate test!
I will say this, I really think it is a concept that takes some getting used to. For some, it is simple. OThers of us it takes quite some time (ME!!!) It is so different from fusion/strand by strand. I am the ultimate perfectionist wanting to get in there and make sure it's tight and solid. I am learning to just LEAVE IT ALONE and LET IT BE!
I agree kristie. I think she just needs the magic bullet as far as a good sew in. I know it can be done because I am living proof. Probably you are also that it CAN be done on fine, silky hair. I dont know how your natural hair is but mine is somewhat crappy and quite fine. I am now past the 2 month mark and no slippage at all! i should get it redone soon and that is only because I work out and sweat so I think my scalp needs a good wash etc..but as far as wefts staying put, no problems!
sourgirl, I completely understand. I actually finally got a really good install!!!!!! I am SO excited! I have now gone 10 days and everything is still very intact....even with 5 of those days in Vegas!!!! How long have you been doing the wefts? I am telling you to possibly stick in there; it has taken me some MAJOR getting used to, but here I am about 4 months later, with a complete re-install every 2-3 weeks (and THAT was pushing it! I TOO could jump rope on my bottom weft by day 10 max!) I have seriously tried out about 8 braiders here in Dallas.
I don't know your entire story, but how many installs have you had?
Whats the huge rush? If you arent getting married till jan, you have a little bit of time here. If i was you, i would get the install done maybe a week prior to the wedding so its a fresh install with brand new hair but a week will give you enough time to play around with it style wise.
Well the other issue is ordering, I have not found one beauty suppy store that carries good stuff. the last time I ordered hair it took almost 3 weeks to get in doing a 2 day shipping method. If anyone knows where I can get good remi pre tipped hair in a hurry let me know!
Sourgirl i think its a big mistake to waste time and energy on hair you are ho hum about. Im sorry the braids didnt work out but if you like that wefted hair, you could probably cut it off and have someone pre-tip it for you. Anyone know if thats feasible?
If that wont work, then get some NICE hair that you are really pleased with and then go back to rings, especially since you are getting married you will want nice soft, touchable hair that feels good as well as looks good. Its just a suggestion and i realize you might be near broke by now but if you spend good money on nice hair, it will last you.

Keep your hair, you may decide to try a different weft method later.

Ok I am going back to micro rings, after a month of adjusting my sew in every week ( oh you can play jump rope on my lower braid ) I decided to go back to micro rings. I got the silicone ones and I figured I would try those. I am going to have my old stylist take these god aweful braids out give me a trim, and depending how long it is maybe just add some strands for fullness. Oh Hum.. I don't know what else to do. I am getting married in January and I am going for this big curl lots of hair style. I need something un detectable so maybe I will get fusion for that.
