i had TR done in boston at HOT GOSSIP a korean salon for $180. i love it. it is the best thing and it works. if you want more information (and to read my posts) go to www.beautywalk.com and click on the message boards - salon/hair. this is all that is talked about. you will find info that will tell you about salons and experiences. there is also a site called www.thermalreconditioning.com that will send you the name of a salon in your area. again, this process is a MIRACLE and if done by a competent and experienced stylist it WORKS!! good luck!
I just had this done. I love the way my hair looks, and feels, but it`s only been 2 days so far. It cost me $600, but my hair is waist length, and very thick and course. I`m washing for the first time tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if it comes out just as straight after I wash.
I`m in college on the mainland, so I get it done at a korean salon at home in Hawaii 2 times a year. It`s called `magic straight` and it is incredible! It left my hair stick straight, shiny, and healthy looking!! The results last a really long time. They use a cream(s) plus the irons. Takes about 3 hours or so..but it is sooo worth it! Just make sure your hair is in good condition before you do it....If you do it on damaged hair it will really not turn out good. But if your hair is healthy there`s no problem!!
The tipping question got quite a discussion going here at work. We consulted the Original Tipping Page on the Internet and the consensus seems to be between 10% and 15%. There was one person that supported 20% but that seems to be a bit high ($70) in this case. The majority supported $35 - $50 as a good tip on a charge of $350 IF you are pleased with the service.
I went to Kim Sun Young Salon in NYC and they quoted me a price of $350 and they don`t use either the Yuko or Liscio treatments. But they do use the irons and some similar treatment. Then I went to the SEI salon in NYC and they quoted me a price of $280 but they don`t use the hot irons (which I thought was one of the most important parts of the process). Both are good salons from what I hear but I am hesistant to go to the cheaper salon because I am afraid I will pay the money and it will just wash right now. They do it a whole different way, they just comb it through with a brush and use steam - they do not use any flat irons at all.
There are just two salons listed as using the Yuko System in NY:
JOHN FRIEDA SALON, NYC 212-879-1000. Ask for TY HOLBROOK
JOHN BARRETT SALON 754 5TH AVE NEW YORK NY 10019 212-872-2700 TARA GONZALEZ
I know that in Southern California the procedure costs $250 - $350 but haven`t seen any prices for NY. I think you are very wise to do your homework before making your final decision.
Thank you for the links. Actually to be more specific, I am looking for a reasonably priced salon in New Jersey or New York City that will do this process. I hear most salons charge $500 and up but I also heard that it is advisable to go to an Asian salon and the cost will be like $250 +. The process from what I`ve read originated in Japan so Japanese and Korean salons are the cost - efficient way to go.
Again, this is only what I`ve read on another site; I`ve been trying to do my homework on this before I make the commitment.
Has anyone had this hair straightening treatment done and if so, are you pleased with the results? I am considering having it done. I have shoulder-length wavy hair and in the humidity I get frizz. Other than that, my hair is in a healthy state. I heard it is also called "Japanese Hair Straightening" and the Koreans call it "Magic Perm Hair". Any information you can provide, I would appreciate. Thank you.
