I don't think you need professional help, you just need to put bleach on them until they're lighter.  just put it only on the orange parts.  Hair lightens in stages   You just weren't able to lift the color enough with a high lift because your natural color is too dark.  Just pick out the orange and put foil under it, and apply the bleach only to those parts.  have someone help you in the back!

the stages of lightening are:
  • natural hair
  • darkest orange
  • dark orange
  • orange
  • light orange
  • dark gold (yellow-orange)
  • gold
  • light gold (orange-yellow)
  • yellow
  • pale yellow     http://everything2.com/?node_id=727251
Or you could try toning the orange parts with a blue based toner or dye if you want a darker highlight (blue countacts orange, it is opposite on the color wheel)

They dyes at Sally's tell you what the base is, so you know which one to get

Thanks. How can I tone down the orange streaks I already have, then? I know I need professional help.

yes, you need bleach, probably with 30 vol developer since your hair is so dark.  HIgh lifts are good only for 4 levels of color

you probably won't even need to tone since youre doing just highlights.  just make sure you leave the bleach on long enough.  Don't pull it off at gold!

Your hair is too dark to lift with a high lift tint. That's why you end up with orange. You will need to use bleach first lifting to a pale yellow like the inside of a banana and then tone with an ash toner..

Hi, I have dark hair (not black but dark brown with no red to it). I like to give it a few random highlights but no matter what color I use the results are orange. I've used high lift for brunettes, ash tones. Never anything warm/golden/red but still the results are veyr brassy.

What am I doing wrong? Suggestions anyone?

Thanks.
