I also went black to blonde. I had long black hair, dyed blue black for years. Went to an apprehensive colorist the first time, which was a mistake. Left there with tricolored hair after he bleached it twice. Got it fixed a week later. it was a medium/light brown. Still no blonde, and I decided after two months of that to no longer wait. So last week I got a short cut and another bleach and am finally blonde. Took four bleachings and a short cut, and I love it.

If I had to do it again, I would, in order:

1. Do colorfix myself
2. Go to a salon for bleaching(s) and get the ends cut off, whatever would not lighten, however short that might be
3. Have the salon tone it

and that would be it. You may need a few bleachings/trips to the salon, but I strongly recommend you lift the color before you bleach.

Good luck!

I went BLACK to Blonde. It was a long, long step but I'm almost PLATINUM now. Take slow steps, slowly lift and lift till you can't lift anymore.

My hair has been bleached so many times I can no longer count. It's def. possible and even more possible but more expensive if you go to a SALON and that's if they'll do it.

So far, any Salon I've gone to, they have refuse dto lift my hair anymore.

Recently I tried MANIC PANICS Bleach kit. Works REALLY good and it leaves hair in good condition. Better than a OTC at the drug store bleaching kit. And you can get VIRGIN SNOW dye, which is really a toner.

I use EXTRA LIGHT ASH to tone, it works a bit better than the toner....So far my hair is fine. I blow dry it and straighten it all the time, it could DEF be in better condtion, but hair grows back and I am nto too worried.

Good luck!!! :)

I agree, there's no way you're getting all that black dye out to a light blonde without using color fix. that would be much better on your hair than doing it gradually

it sounds like your hair is almost fried. I think if it were me, and I was sick of black, I'd do color fix, then dye it my natural color & wait until I chop off all the previously dyed hair to go blonde.  If you are able to achieve the light color you want, your hair will probably look fried too, so I think it's best to wait

Yep thats what I was thinking,
that maybe for a bit I would go for my natural hair colour.
And I am for sure getting it done professionally, I've screwed up enough times with bleach to know.
Thanks dear.

Whew! You're as bad as me! I went from black to blonde and back alot too. My hair really paid the price though and was short for a while because of it.

Honestly,I would take little tiny baby steps since your hair has been through so much.
As in,bleach it for only 20 minutes to a half an hour. Color over that with a temporary hair color of like a light brown color.
Wait a month, bleach it again the rest of the way.

Or,go to a pro.Best of luck~

Okay, I have dyed black hair currently and would really like to go platinum, and I'm totally aware it would ruin my hair so I'm fine with going in steps, I just need some advice as to what steps to take and how long in between etc. Naturally my hair is dark blonde/ light brownish.

For some background on my hair dying history,

Sept 06- Black
Jan 07- Light blonde
Feb 07- Black
May 07- Blonde, but only on very top of my head.
June 07- All black

and it's still all black, it feels pretty fried, and doesn't strech a whole lot but if I deep condition it for a good while and don't redo my roots or anything do you think platinum is possible in the nearish future?

Thanks for your help.
