QuoteReplyTopic: How fast does your hair grow, and... Posted: May 07 2003 at 12:43pm
I had Waist long hair for years. Due to professional reasons, last week I got it cut to just a bit longer than Shoulder length (Does anybody remember my question "How to wear long hair to work" on this board?)
Actually i told the hairdresser to cut it to BS length. But she has lopped 4-5 inches extra - closer to shoulder level. My hubby is wild at this and has fought intensely with me.
Can somebody tell me how long it may take me to (1) Reach BS length. (2) Reach Tailbone length.

First, I am perfectly fine with your having told the story about the "plaid pants (trousers)." When I told Karen that I play quite a bit of golf, she asked me if I wear plaid trousers, like professional golfers did in the early-mid 1970s. I laughed and said, "no." (sorry to disappoint you Chris and Uzma, I own no such golf outfit). Shortly thereafter was a photograph in my local newspaper of pro golfer Johnny Miller winning a major tournament in 1973, wearing... plaid trousers. So I scanned it and sent it to Karen. She said that every time I tell her I'm off to play golf, she thinks of that picture, and must somehow equate "Dave" with those plaid trousers. Hee hee.
So guess where I was this weekend? Yep, that's right. I was out on the golf course both days. An out-of-town trip, too. I played really well too, but it was, as Karen writes, "hotter than Hades" here (Florida). Oh, and in case anybody's curious, the mane is restrained during golf! Tuck the braid down the back, ready to go.

Of course, I don't have have a clue what DD is like personally, but I suspect he is a gentleman and would not take revenge on a lady for sartorial defamation. I would hope your secrets are safe with Mr D.
....Sean Connery in a tartan kilt......swoonTHUD!!!
ROTFLMAO. Well the long hair world is such a close knit society I am sure that Dave would hear of my plaid comments whether I edited or not. :-) But the good news is that Dave has some knowledge about me that he could trot out for the boards so I guess I should hope that he takes the plaid info as my attempt at humor and teasing. :-)
And actually....I have visions of Dave's long locks flowing in the breeze of a nice day on the links. Although for some reason when I think of plaid I think of a Sean Connery kilt rather than plaid trousers. LOL.
Best wishes, Karen

Come over here (she says conspiratorily in a quiet voice)...edit all the plaid bits out. Dave will never know that we all know the awful truth. I for one will get the image of a longhaired, yellow plaid-wearing golfer every time I see a DD posting.
I believe, if memory serves me correct, that Lyris told me the website of where I got my icon.

Dave is a huge fan of golf. He plays golf a lot. One time when we were talking on the phone he mentioned that he had just played golf. I asked him if he wore the "traditional plaid pants" trousers to you Brits...and he laughed and said that the plaid "Johnny Miller golf outfits" were long gone.
There is rarely a weekend goes past without Dave playing golf. I'm sure he has a 'golf outfit' of sorts too, whatever he says... :o)
I don't know you very well but I love your icon. I just added one myself and went through about 5 before I found one I liked. I really love LiliBeach's icon but I couldn't find one as cool as yours or LB's.
Hi Princess,
Thanks for the compliment. I believe the photo is here at HB.com. There is one with my hair in hairsticks. I personally HATE having my photo taken but endure it from time to time.
Yes...I have bangs. I would die w/out bangs. It is my "cover" from the world. :-)
Uzma,
Glad to hear you are having a good weekend. I, of course, am working at HB.com. I have been fighting all day with a digital camera and the scanners to try and get some new hair accessories in the Marketplace. They are these squirmy little France Luxe headbands w/cutouts and they pop off the display just as I am ready to click. UGH. I think the scanner is winning. :-)
Best wishes, Karen

So here is the Dave "plaid trousers" story......he will probably kill me...maybe not...but here it is...

Anyway, I still tease Dave about the plaid pants...er trousers....from time to time. :-)
Hope that clears up the mystery.
Best wishes, Karen

44 cm in 34 months..... roughly over 1.2cm per month. (I started from almost nothing, beginning 2000.7, and made my choice to tell the world to (6th letter expletive) itself with their damn conformism later that month)
If I ever and I mean EVER have the ends trimmed, I wouldn't trust anyone but regulars of the HB.lhs forum. Still, don't delude yourself, that won't be for a long time.

My hair grows about an inch every 5 weeks. Out of plain curiosity to see which time of my menstrual cycle my hair grows fastest, I have taken to measuring it weekly. It stalls for about 2 weeks after my period, then speeds up till my next period. I can't really attribute it to anything other than family history. My dad is almost 61 and has his hair thinned when he goes to the barber.
Not long ago, I got my first professional trim in 12 years. The shape is holding remarkably well, and my ends look just fine. I figure, with my short term goal being to my fingertips, which is about 48" from my hairline, it will reach this goal by at least thanksgiving if I don't get a trim. Then, I guess it could be to my knees (about 54") about a year or so from now, or roughly 11 inches longer. That is, if it continues to grow. :)
My hair is almost to my knees (~50") and continues to grow longer. Rather slowly these days, but that's ok - it's still *growing*.

Let me add my hearty congratulations too Karen. EXCELLENT!! You obviously take extraordinary care of your hair and I'm glad your hard work is paying off. My wife has mid-thigh hair so I know a little bit about the commitment and care it takes to grow it long. Good for you!! You are an inspiration.
As for the original question, my text books say that hair normally grows at half a millimeter or so per day, or about half an inch every month. So if Papillon_purple is getting an inch a month that is really very good. On the other hand, I have a good friend that takes Viviscal and her hair does indeed grow more than half an inch a month so an inch isn't out of the question.
By the way Karen, I was messing about on the Internet last night and, just for grins, typed in "hair" in Google AND YOU CAME UP FIRST!! But then, WE always knew you were number one. You rock girl!!

Congrats on the recent hair growth, Karen! Keep those eyes off that boiling pot.
And congrats too to Beatnik Guy on getting past the stalling and back into gear.
One inch per month is amazingly fast, papillon_purple! I used to know someone whose hair grew that fast. Endured a 1 foot "trim" and all returned a year later. Just amazing.
The good news is that summer is almost here and as someone else posted, the Vitamin D of sunshine helps hair grow faster. Also, I found that when I eat Nori seaweed my hair feels fuller and stronger. So eating some good foods will always help a little.
At least you know you have all of us here pulling for your and your follicles to grow, grow, grow. :-)
Best wishes, Karen

I'd say close to an inch a month.. it might average out, since I starting measuring a few months ago...
I'll second Karen on the "a watched pot never boils" phenomenon. When I was keeping my hair short, I used to complain every time I got my hair cut, 'cause it seemed like it grew once it got cut and I needed another trim. Now that I'm committed on growing my hair past my shoulders, it's taking forever for my front shorter layers to grow out!
20 inches of hair should reach my mid-back.. I'm not really wondering how long it's going to take.. I'm just waiting until my layers grow out, and then I'll let my hair grow as it naturally does..
