QuoteReplyTopic: Colorzap, semi-permanent and permanent color? HELP Posted: November 02 2007 at 2:18pm
Thanks alot Susan for the reply!
I'll definitely do a strand test. And I'm very glad you pointed out the fact that the color will not be true to tone since I currently have orange tresses. I definitely know not that I need to do some reading on color theory for hair coloring before I attempt haircoloring again! I'll make sure to get a color with a blue or green base so I can get brown tresses.
I called the Loreal hotline as well, and the rep told me that the Colorzap won't work on my semi-permanent dye, and that I would have to wait until the semi-permanent stuff fades out. I know about Clairol's Uncolor stuff to get rid of semi-permanent color in a day's time, so I can use this to wash out the semi-permanent stuff a few times I guess. She also told me that I wouldn't need to use ColorZap because my hair was already orange, and that's the same effect that ColorZap would have on my hair, so there would ultimately be no change. But I'll still keep it in my drawer just in case.
Thanks again! (And any other replies are still welcome )
First, I am not a pro and I have no experience with this product, but based on what you say is in the instructions I would use both. The reason you are using it now is because you want to remove the dark semi permanent color, and you need both to do that. I think they probably said leave out the activator because you can't do much to remove blonde from dyed blonde hair (blonde is the result of removing the hair's own pigment, then having a faint tone added to make the yellow look natural...so blonde is always permanent), so doing more to it isn't going to change much for blondes and might just be pointless, however, it might be more damaging.
If I were you, I'd test strand the stuff though, with the activator, on the chance that they tell you not to use it because your hair would get too damaged after lightening to blonde. Your hair will likely come out the orange it was before, because that is now its "natural" undyed color (the reason it came out orange is you just didn't lighten it enough to get to blonde...black hair needs bleach to get to blonde, one box of dye won't ever do it).
Also be aware that if you use the light golden brown over orange hair, it likely will still come out a reddy shade of brown (you need a color with a blue or green base to counter the orange). Test strand! And good luck!

I'm new to posting to the forum but am a long time reader and you guys are GREAT!
Anyways, I have a dilemma:
Last week, I dyed my black hair using Texture & Tones Honey Blonde Color, and it turned out ORANGE . I hated it, and so I applied a semi-permanent color over my hair so I wouldn't go outside with orange hair. I used a dark reddish-brown color, namely Jazzing's Warm Chestnut Brown.
It's been about a week, and now I want to recolor it again using Texture & Tones Light Golden Brown. So I bought some Loreal ColorZap at Sallys, as recommended by one of their workers. She also told me that the ColorZap will get rid of the semi-permanent
color as well.
When I opened the ColorZap package, it includes liquid activator and powder. When I looked at the directions for ColorZap
it said that if you permanently dyed your hair a blonde color that you shouldn't use the activator and just use the powder. But they said that if you dyed your hair a darker color then you should use the activator. I'm confused because I have the darker color over my hair but it is semi-permanent, but the blond color underneath is permanent. Should I use the activator since I have the dark color over my blonde color? And will the ColorZap still work if I have a semi-permanent dark color over my blonde color?
