I'm confused about whether you got any brown dye on it.  I know your natural color is brown and you got highlights, but did they go over the brown with brown, then do highlights, or just leave your natural color and put highlights alone?

If its dyed brown, putting honey blonde over it definitely won't do anything to the brown (color won't lift color, ever.)  If the brown is your natural color, you may get some lift, but probably just to a dark orange, not a blonde.  To get hair that is brown to lift, you will have to use something stronger than one box of dye.  This is likely going to take more than one process as well, you will probably need to use bleach to get it a good bit lighter, then tone or dye over it to get a natural shade using the appropriate base color.  Your highlights will lift more and faster of course.

If you try to do this yourself, be sure to test strand everything!  It takes time but will save you from making any mistakes on your whole head.

Edited to add:  No, you don't need to wait.  Its a good idea to wait two days after dyeing it so your scalp oils can build up after being stripped off by the dye to protect your scalp the next time (that's why you don't wash your hair before dyeing it).  That is the only reason to wait.

I just got my hair done at a salon. its brown with blonde highlights. I thought the highlights would blend well to make just a dark blond or something but it just looks very slightly lighter. My goal eventually is drk blonde. Im thinking if i do an at home all over honey blonde itll lighten up a lot. thoughts?

also do i really have to wait to do it? I just got it done six days ago. I dont wanna wait. My natural color is brown so even if it fades it wont fade to lighter.
