I am excited! I get my new curls this Friday!
We'll see what my heart tells me. I'm not used to tipping for such expensive services. I expect the young lady will go home with a healthy $100 holiday tip.
I agree with Tangles, I never expect a tip and I am not mad if someone does not tip, but I'm always happy when they do!
I would say that most of my hair extensions clients do tip. When they do tip, it's usually $10-100. On average for the average extension job, I would say most tip about $20. My clients who have been with me a long time or we have a closer relationship, of course they tip more.
When I have a service, it's it's been a good experience, I am a really good tipper, since I believe in good karma!
But ultimately it's up to you. Do what you feel is appropriate.
You tip what you want to tip. It's not like you're dealing with an underpaid restaurant server who depends on tips. I don't tip stylist by percentage. For a service over $200, I never tip unless they've done something extra like come in early or stayed later to squeeze me in. From the amount you're paying for the service, a $10-$20 tip is more than sufficient.

Thanks--I think I'd feel strange not tipping. And I agree Tangles--since she's coming to my house she does deserve a tip.
So, one more question. I'm usually a pretty generous tipper & typically give 20% unless whatever service it is was truly horrible. But I'm expecting this to cost me $600-700. 20% of that is about $130-$140, which seems like an awful lot. Is it traditional to give the usual tip? Or do you tip less--maybe 10%--since the service is so expensive? Especially since there is no salon overhead?
I get alot of tips from alot of clients, and i also have a few that dont ever tip.
For me, i love when i get tips and i dont upset or feel bad when i dont get one.
When i like the service i get, i tip alot. Its all what people prefer to do. There really isnt any set way to do it or reason. Do what you feel led in your heart to do.
side note.... if someone is comming to your home, that right there deserves a good tip. Unless she is charging you a travel fee to start with.

Ya know the whole tipping thing has gotten really out of hand....every where I go there's a tip jar. I'm surprised there isn't one at the doctor's office on my way out. Somehow I feel obligated to leave a tip every time I see a tip jar.....I'll spend $3. on a little cafe late and give a $1?? WTF? No.
Okay...I digress I typically give a tip. If I like the service I do give a tip. The lady who braids my hair gets a tip. If she has someone help her I give her a tip too. If I'm happy I tip everyone. If I'm not happy, no one is getting a tip and I've been there too.

OK I read a tipping thread on here & there were so many different opinions! I'm getting maintenance this Friday & it's my first time w/this technician. I found her at a salon but she's since left the salon & is coming to my house.
I'm curious, how does a tech work at a salon? Does s/he rent a chair, or does s/he split the take per customer w/the salon?
If a tech rents a chair then I would think tipping for salon or at-home services would be the same (meaning: no tip for you! ). But if s/he has to split payments at a salon, but would pocket the full amount for at-home, I'd probably tip at the salon but not at home.
