Hi Katherine!

I brought a handful of pictures and my hairdresser said, "Your hair is different. It won`t do that." I was specific about where I wanted layers. She said, "No. You don`t want it shorter in the front."

I don`t??? I was at her mercy! And to give her credit, she did give me a well-shaped cut. And my hair ended up looking just like those pictures once I figured out how to style it! :)

Last time I chopped my long hair was 3 years ago. You know the reactions. "Oh...you cut your hair...." and "Why?!?" It looked AWFUL and I didn`t look in the mirror for months. So this time when I had been fighting the itch to cut for over a year, I was very nervous. Everybody who knows me told me not to do it, it wouldn`t look right on me. But when I did it, there was unanimous acclaim! I was ready for a change, so I don`t regret having done it. But I`m just not too sure this length suits me.

I`m of course thinking of growing it out again, which will take me yeeeears since my hair growth rate is slow. Any tips on how you take care of your growing locks? You sound like a long-standing member of the Long Locks Club. :)

I`m going in for layers in an hour. Thanks for wishing me luck cos I think I`ll be needing it!!!

Sunrhys, I`m not sure I can explain the lingo, and some hairdressers misinterpret the lingo, anyway!

I suggest you bring a photo of what you want because you know what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words. Look for photos of people with hair that looks similar in texture to yours.

I`m curioue, how did you and others react to your dramatic haircut?

I had waist-length hair and cut it short when I was 16. I loved it, and most people reacted very positively, I think because my long hair was not in good condition. Now, many years later, my hair is approaching my waist again, and I`m taking better care of it.

Good luck,
Katherine

Hi everyone! I need some help here please!

I recently cut my waist length hair to an under the chin bob cut. If I remember what my stylist said, it is `A-line` and lightly layered (maybe an inch or two). I have a long thin face, so I opted for bangs. The cut is holding shape, but I`m not liking how my face is actually looking longer. I was so used to feathering my hair back that it took me weeks to stop working against the new forward style.

At this point I am thinking of growing it out and some layers. Only I don`t know what to ask for. Does anybody know the difference between a `shag` and a layered bob cut? I know in my head what I want, but I`d like to be able to speak hairdresser language so that we are clear on what I end up seeing in the mirror when all is said and done!

Thanks!
