Magnus, Lyris made some good points. I would add that you should only blowdry when necessary (in a time crunch), air dry as long as possible (or don`t blowdry completely), and always, always, always use the coolest setting on your dryer. Did I mention always? ;-)

Any direct heat will wear away at the hair`s cuticle--that includes curling/flat irons, dryers, sunlight, rollers, etc. These are harmful by breaking down the bonds that hold the hair shaft together. Now I know that sounds scary, but many people use hot styling tools on a daily basis without frying their hair to a crisp. How? There are a few things you can do: use conditioner, which coats the hair shaft and to some degree will guard against future damage. Also, if you`re using a dryer, never apply it to areas of hair that are already completely dry. When your hair is wet, the dryer works mostly by evaporating the water and doesn`t really harm your hair. Hold the dryer away from your hair--don`t press the nozzle one inch away from the shaft. And don`t overuse hot tools if you can help it.

Hi all.I had my hair cut for the first time in about a year just yesterday and after my hairdresser had cut and washed it she blow dried it.The air was quite hot and she brused it at the same time to straighten my hair. She only blow dried for approx 5-6 minutes but I was just wondering could it permamently damage my fine hair and if so how? Thanks everyone and take care.
