Amen, David. Well stated! I too love long hair worn up. Sometimes its elegance is breathtaking. I didn't think that way until I neared 30, but tastes mature, hopefully, for most of us. (lol) Bob
As for the assault, how many times would such a horror occur if the perps KNEW that they'd spend 10 years of hard time for the crime? Angry Possibly never. We are too soft with the cretins of our world.

No, a bun does NOT look frumpy. It is majestic. It defines the woman who wears it. It makes a value statement, and an important one. It says, "concentrated effort to achieve a perfect result."

A few comments:

I agree with David, it is assault and should be treated as such.  However, walking around afraid that someone is going to attack your hair will not do any good for your emotional health.  If you let the fear get at you, you wind up feeling much worse than if that actually did happen.  That's not to say that hiding your hair in certain situations isn't a good idea, prevention is good, but you can't live in fear.  I've seen a rare long haired lady go that route before and hit a level that was mentally unhealthy, and causing her to take actions that were potentially detrimental to her.  I'm not seeing anybody do that here, and it wasn't on this board, I'm just saying, a bun every day out of fear is not going to make all your hard work taking care of your hair worth it to you.

It is nice to hear, David, that you find a bun attractive.  I always feel mine make me look frumpy, so its nice to hear when people like the way they look!

About HairUWear, I am not 100% certain that some of that hair doesn't come from the churches where women go to get their head shaved for religious reasons.  How can one be certain?  Is it better to take this hair? http://www.hvk.org/articles/0803/187.html
And I'm not saying that's where HairUWear comes from, I don't know, just that its Indian hair.  I suppose that is not necessarily bad, if like this article says, the church uses the profit to feed hungry people and gives money to schools.  I don't know how the women would feel about it, maybe they'd care, maybe not.

Maybe its not so terrible, I suppose, that some people won't grow their own hair but will wind up giving hundreds to a church in India that feeds hungry people there.  (Although they spend more like thousands on the hair, so there's a middle man getting rich from huge mark-up.).  Opinions?

Edited to add:  I've been thinking about this, and hope no one feels I'm anti-extension...I realize some of my posts probably sound that way.  I'm not trying to say anything bad about anyone who would get extensions, we live in a world where that's what people do, and I really don't mean to criticize them for doing it.  Its just a thing to think about, how the world and the system works.

Cutting a woman's hair is an assault. People who do this are dangerous criminals and should be locked up. And the victim should sue the assailant as well. However, it can be prevented by wearing a bun, which is the ultimate beautiful style.

Actually I met a woman at a local restaurant who was devastated.  She had donated her waist length hair to one of "those" donate your hair charities and then she found out that the hair doesn't necessarily go to kids with cancer but can be sold.  She said the same thing.  She said "I will think twice before buying EBay hair".

At least with some types of hair like HairUWear you know the hair comes from India and was not chopped off some innocent person donating their hair or being chopped by guys on motorcycles.

Makes you want to braid your hair and wear it over your shoulder under a jacket in some surroundings.  I would be devastated.

Well, that is terribly sad for that poor woman, but we can't walk around in fear of such things.  I knew someone from Brasil about 10 years ago, and he said the crime was very bad there (I think he was from a city).

Makes you think though.  That someone would be robbed of her hair just because so many people want long hair but won't grow their own and will pay so handsomely for someone else's.

when I was in middle school there was a very pretty blonde girl with very long hair... another girl didn't like her and during a break one day heading to classes the one girl grabbed the other girls ponytail in the middle of the hallway rush and chopped a huge chunk of it off, not just a clean cut. the girl had to cut her hair above sholder length, the school couldn't prove who did it but everyone knew... that kinda stuff is scary!

Something in the story doesn't match up... if her hair was more than four feet long, it couldn't have only been waist-length. huhsign
Anyway, whichever length it was, that would be devastating! Poor lady! Unhappy
Current length: approx. 52"
Goal length: Infinity :)

Men on motorcycle steal woman's hair

Two men on a motorcycle grabbed a woman as she walked to church, pulled out a machete and cut off the waist-length hair she had been growing for two decades, police in Brazil said Thursday.

The woman, a homemaker whose name was not released, told police she was walking to church when she was assaulted late Tuesday, police officer Antonio Williams da Silva said by telephone from the northeastern city of Aracaju.

Da Silva said the woman told authorities she hadn't cut her hair for 20 years.

"It must have been nearly a meter and half (more than four feet) long," da Silva said.

The robbers cut the woman's hair above her shoulders, he said, apparently with the idea of selling it to be fashioned into a wig.

"A hairpiece that size could cost you as much" as $550, da Silva said.

The woman was not injured, but her assailants could be charged with battery if caught.

Da Silva said it was the second recent case of hair robbery in Aracaju.

Similar attacks have occurred in other Brazilian cities, where the demand for human hair is high.

That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)
