I got straw sets and had my straightened hair cut off gradually. The transition was invisable. It was a however a expensive transition, I could never get the hang of doing the straw set myself. Once all my straightened hair was gone I started doing double strand twist.
Good Luck, enjoy, its worth the wait!

i would keep my hair moisturized and that's keeps it from breaking.. i didn't do the chop i just kept my hair clean and conditioned.. did hair treatmetns such as aphogee to prevent breakage and get my hair healthy.. did sealing with oil and kept it braided and its been growing like a weed, plus i wear lf's as a protective style and its works for me..
i would say be patient while your hair is going through changes...you're gonna see things you never saw before...you might fall in love with your newfound texture...you might hate it...but give it time to come into its own...when i first went natural ...i didn't have a clue..i did massive research...tried out tons of products until i found what works for me...
ultimately learn to love and work with the texture you're given...i may dream of having kelis' curls but that's just my texture...but i love my curls just the same...
