QuoteReplyTopic: Pricing of extensions- Am I being ripped off? Posted: March 24 2008 at 9:08am
Thanks! I think I'm looking in the pricerange of 500-600 right now, for the quality of hair and method that I'm using. I didn't know that about fine hair either, hair extensions are almost an art.
The cost for installng hair can vary a lot as you are finding. I think the range of $200-1200 is right in the ball park though. The final cost depends on what method is used, quality of hair used, how quanitity of hair used, length of hair, and time it takes to apply it.
You said that you have a lot of hair (fine, but a lot of it) so that is always a more time consuming job since you generally need to add more extension hair to get the natural hair to blend in and avoid the 'mushroom head' look.
Just do your homework on whoever you are going to chose to do your extensions and ask to see before and after pictures, how long they have been doing it, etc.
I think the best extensionists are the ones who wear a full head of extensions themselves, since they know first hand the pros and cons, and potential pit falls.
Whats your hair color and texture avarose? Some brands are better than others based on color and texture. I swear by Bohyme hair, and for blondes and light colors Bohyme is a great option. For darker and curly textures Wagman Primus is an excellent product. Also, Extensions Plus has high quality hair but a bit higher priced.
I'm definitely going for a decent quality hair- I'd rather spend the money now then spend it later trying to fix it AND look nasty at the same time. I've heard some good things about delux but I haven't ventured into checking it out. I have slightly damaged but very thick (but fine? thin strands but a bunch of them) hair, right on shoulder length. How much would the hair run me, and would I buy it myself? My hair dresser said she can order it, but if I can find it cheaper online or elsewear (ebay!) then I'd much rather go that route. This keep getting less expensive with every quote.

Hey There! Welcome to the forum! Good for you for doing your research!!
I get a weave too. I LOVE it!! I pay $25/track and I get three tracks. I get them re-done every six weeks. Oh, a track is a braid which is used to sew the weft on.
Yes, you do want good quality hair if you have the $$. It will last you a long time and you won't have to deal with all the matting and major tangling.
If you have a picture of your hair we can give better advice.
I would suggest meeting a few different people before you decide on where to have it done. Ask them what they suggest for you etc.
Hey everyone, this is my first post, hooray! I was directed to this forum with my extension questions.
I'm not too sturdy on which type I'm getting (I have a consultation with my hair dresser next week to decide), but I think I'll be going with a weave. I think that's the one anyways, although the word weft keeps reverbrating in my head. As you can tell I'm not that smart yet in the world of extensions.
Now my question is, how much should I be paying for hair and installation? I'm being quoted anywhere from 200 to 1200 total, which is throwing me off completely. Now, in my research I realize that there is a big difference in hair quality and the pricing of different methods, but for a weave with good quality hair shouldn't the pricing be a bit more centered? Confusion all around.
Thanks!
Note: I am willing to pay good money for good quality hair, I'm not being cheap. I just want to make sure i'm not going to be paying waaay too much for what I'm getting!
EDIT: I have fine but thick hair, slightly damaged but still shiney and smooth. It's a little longer then shoulder length and grows super fast.
