split ender

I saw the advert for the split ender while watching the shopping channel. After seeing the advert a few times, I thought about getting the split-ender for 4 days and then I decided to order it after seeing the commercial/advert twice more. As far as I was concerned, if the split-ender didn't live up to my expectations, I was going to send it back (they have a 30 day money back guarantee). I live in the UK and it cost £55.85 altogether including P&P, and I got a free revo styler with it.

I've had many bad experiences with hairdressers cutting my hair when I ask for a trim, so for the past 3 years, I have resorted to home maintenance for my hair.

I ordered the split ender and it arrived y'day. I have just used the machine and I have to say that my hair feels a lot smoother, and the ends aren't wrapping around the other hairs and causing tangles as my hair usually does. It still looks full (lion's mane) after washing, conditioning, blow drying and then using the split ender.

Lately, my hair has been thru alot, I have texturised it, coloured it with permanent colour and I blow dry every week to have a straighter look. I have to say that after using the split-ender for the first time today my hair seems to be less fried looking, it also feels a lot softer and smoother than it has done for a long time.

Only a few little hairs 1/8 of an inch have been cut off the ends, although my hair has been badly split up the hair shaft I would have liked for more to have been cut off the hair, but I suppose I will wait for about 4 weeks b4 I use the split ender again.
In the meantime, I have recently started taking some hair supplements which seem to be helping with my nails as well.

One more thing, I am black in origin with texturised shoulder length hair (approx. 12").

I would never, ever have it near my hair!
First of all, I would want my hair to be trimmed of perpendicular to
the hair strand to get as little of the fragile, inner parts as possible exposed
to wear and tear. Even in the over-glamorous ad, it shows the hair
getting cut of at a pointy angle
And also- I seriously hate the idea of actually applying force to
the hairs while cutting it- you'll most likely end up ripping it
over, especially when the blades have been used!

I'm growing out layers, so by cutting off new growth I can keep the length and lose the layers (slowly). Once it's even at the ends I'll let it grow some more. The layers are driving me nuts because I end up with furry plaits.

Are you keeping your hair at its present length, or are you trying to grow it longer? Because if you're trimming 1cm per month, you're probably trimming off just about all that grows...

I completely agree with you about the value of judgment in split-end removal. While the split-ender tool may be a step in the "right" direction, until such a device has a means of evaluating which ends are split and which are not, and cuts only those that are split, the tool probably won't be helpful to someone trying to grow their hair longer.

I saw the infomercial for this product a few times. I also am eager to hear how it works! (but not brave enough to buy it myself; I cannot imagine that it works as good as they say...) Please post any review people. Thanks!

Thank you Uzma, interesting observation about cut ends and splitting! I have never heard this before, and I will need to think about it some, but it seems sensible. I have not cut anything but split ends for two years, and have lately been thinking of a bit of a trim, just because I have not done it for so long, I guess, and because it´s what one "should do". But honestly, I like the way it looks, all the way down. And I like the way it behaves when I bun it as well.

I keep learning something everytime I visit this sight!

I haven't tried the split ender, but it sounds neat to me. I have millions of slit ends, my hair is just too long to cut them all off! I think I'll try it.

There is a small goup of people here (myself included) who are in the no-cut camp.
Dave is a supporter but not a fellow no-cutter.
I believe the majority of posters here do trim off their split-ends, at the very minimum.

Yes of course. However, it depends on what you mean by healthy.
I take the best care of my hair that I am able.
Maybe some hair will split as it gets longer.
I think that hair that has a blunt end by being previously cut is more likely to split than hair that has never been cut and has a finely pointed end.
I have observed this in the few people I have met with very long hair, and through anecdotal information from others.
So, if I trim a half inch of the ends of my hair to keep it “healthy”, I will not only take off split ends, but may create a situation that encourages more hair to split in future.
I could selectively trim the splits if/when they occur, but I will not be happy doing so, anymore than I would be having laser treatment to eliminate facial wrinkles.
I am aiming for maximum length, healthy hair. Cutting is not healthy for my goals!!

If at all. The main purpose of these product would be to moisturize/protect hair and prevent splits and other damage.

My friend bought the revo styler. I tried it out on my hair and it just make it in a tangled mess not to mention staticy! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I checked out the website and my sister and I are so intrigued we're gonna buy it and give it a try. It has a money-back guarantee, so what do we have to lose? It's kinda pricey-about $70, but if it can cut every hair on your head only 1/8 of an inch it would pay for itself after one or two uses. Currently I pay my stylist $40 for a trim--and she's accurate, but not to the point of cutting only 1/8" off each hair. And trying to dust my split ends is way too time consuming! I'll keep everyone posted on whether or not it works.
