I took Sexi's advice and got ta tweezing. Good Lawd! I felt like I was working in a sweat shop. I got it to where I can at least wear the wig until I get another; I most def will be ordering from a CV for my 2nd. I bleached the knots some took most didnt. I will use the RIT color remover, rebleach with the Sally's kit, and add chocolate brown low lites , I hate those artificial looking browns. I'm getting there ya'll, this has been some serious drama for my 1st time around. With all this hair surgery, this will definately end up being my beater unit. I plan on wearing this thing tomorrow so pics are forthcoming.

First of all, if this is your first lf, you are probably not used to seeing yourself in it. I doubt it's as bad as you think. Why don't you upload a picture? Next, the short hairs will behave! Try putting a little water on them and tie them down at night. As for the thinning...the unit will thin on its own over time. I wouldn't over do it. Show us some pics.....

awww im so sorry for you hun, personally i think its better to have a medium density to work with than have the light density and realized its too light to your likin. maybe what you can do is try to have your stylist do the thinning and styling for you, here is the thinning technique from Sexi: http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=59553&PN=3
i hope it will work out for you,but i think the length is great, you will have room for layers.

And since you've already altered the unit, there's no turning back. Once you get it applied, you can work a little alcohol-free mousse on the root area and tie it down real good with a silk scarf. That'll help to tame some of those nubby little hairs you can't get to. Don't be to vexed over it. We've all been there before and sometimes you have to just make the best of it. Buying LF's is hit or miss. You learn which vendors to stick with, and which ones to avoid. You got a raw deal with this transaction, and that's not fair. But it probably won't be the last time. I have several that I just hated, but a few of them I actually re-worked into pretty decent units. Take this opportunity to work with it until you can get another one. You'll find plenty of good advice here to help you get through it.
Good luck!

dang i'm so sorry your going thru so much, but you need to wet the hair and section it in small sections to thin it.. i would get to tweezing it as much as i could to recover it, for the short hairs..b/c that is a problem with thinning.. if you don't do it in thin section and lift that hair up and start the thinning at the base of the cap you can have short hairs.. but try that, and then i would let it air dry with a hair net on it, b/c it tends to make the shorter hairs lay flatter and gather the hair up.. i hope you kept the hair net it came in..

Ok, so I finally rec'vd my 1st LF which was supposed to be a custom but the vendor sent me the wrong one and replaced it with a similar stock unit. Here's the problem:
I wanted a 12" light to med density, I got a 18" med density which is way to thick from the crown on back. I trimmed it to about 14" and thinned it with a thinning comb. I did a decent job with the length but the thinning job has me . It looks like I'm wearing a hair helmet and to make matters worse there are all these short little choppy hairs all in between which are probably contributing to the thickness. I just dont know what else to do. I can usually work with some hair and make it fly, but I've been tediously thinning for over an hour and it just aint working. I'm praying one of you vets can give me guidance. TIA
