I've had hair integreation for 3 years and my own hair is very long and very thin but it has grown. I lost a lot of hair in the crown area due to constant tightenings but that's the price I paid for starting with JA Alternatives here in NY and then Don Cosa Images. The damage was done by then. I have a full integration unit on a matrix (net like unit) and go for tightenings now every 4 weeks. I can go to 8 weeks but the technician has more work as it is very loose. I know how to handle the hair which is about 21 inches long. I wear a headband every day for security. I don't know about Great Lengths. I also dont know where you live. I go to New Jersey to Exclusive Lengths in Teaneck. I'm very pleased and have been going there for 2 years. I have Russian hair only. Its very expensive but worth it.
When I do my own extensions or on my clients, I am always very careful with application and removal, however, some people have hair that is just not genetically anchored into their scalp as well and rips out easily. I am one of those persons.
I also dislike the taped wefts because usually after week 3 for me, the adhesive gets gummy and starts to make my head itch like crazy!
I agree with Mokipono, a full head weave may be a very good option. I wore a full head weave for about 3 years and that was the best my natural hair ever looked.
If you adequately tease and hairspray your hair at the part line on which you intend to put the clip ins, then no to minimal damage will happen. I have been wearing clip ins for about 7 years now, and my hair has not suffered further damage.
I've heard very good things about micropoint links (http://www.micropointlinks.com/). A lot of chemo patients actually use these when their hair starts growing in to help it grow back more healthy, as well as people whose hair has been damaged by extensions in the past. I couldn't quote a price for you (I'm looking into that myself), but I'd gather that if you have the money, it's well worth it. Also look at Charlene Blacer, she's from PA at www.cybermane.com , you can look her up online too- she's really well known and good. If you are very worried about the condition of your hair maybe now is the time to get a full head weave. All of your own hair put away safely into cornrows, with wefts sewn on top, or sewn onto a net covering the cornrows. I would never suggest any type of keratin glue or tape if you are experiencing hair loss.
Wefts aren't easier on the hair for everyone, it just depends on how strong your hair is. I have seen people get damage and bald spots from wefts before.
For me personally and my own whimpy hair, each time I did the wefts with tape I would lose gobs of hair upon removal.
So while wefts that are properly applied can work well for many people, some people (like myself) has hair that just can't support hair extensions.
I wear clip in wefts, and since I take them out every day and give my head a rest at night, I don't seem to get any noticable damage from them.

I find your experience interesting Metal. I also wear clip-ins (on the bottom section of my hair) along with tape/glue (on top). Personally, I LOVE clip-ins but I hesitate to say they are more gentle than a more permanent method. The clipping and un-clipping of the wefts seems like it could be hard on the scalp/hair (for some) and I've noticed that the clips feel heavier than the tapes. However, I do realize this is personal experience and subjective! I think an argument can be made for or against any method.

But i am sure there are other options too. But I have only have shrink tube, micro-rings, wefts, and heat seals.
I generally agree with this, but I do also note that how the wefts are applied and removed is a huge factor! Yeah, tape/glue will rip out your hair IF you apply it sloppily and IF you don't remove patiently. I think it helps to do hair treatments in between installs as well to keep your hair healthy or to get healthier. Works for me!

Okay... I need help for sure! I am getting to the point where I am going to need my extensions redone in a couple of weeks so I am stressing. I have had the great length extensions for a couple of years now and my hair has not grown at all, in fact, it's shorter and thinner than when I started. I need a new method; one that allows my hair to grow and not be damaged. Can anyone tell me the best method to do so.... I'm really stressing over this as I can't just take these out and have no hair!!
