I have to mention that I am also wearing a sew in weave (as Mint Mocha is) and no problems with it at all. In fact my fine, thin hair has been able to grow substantially while wearing a weave over the past year. It’s been the healthiest method I have worn thus far. That’s not to say that it could possibly be sewn in too tight or have some other problem develop. There is always the potential for other situations to arise since we don’t all have the same hair texture or issues to contend with. For me, I simply wanted length and not a lot of volume and it’s worked out splendidly. I am also wearing virgin Russian hair which I have had installed over a year now with little to no change in hair quality.
I agree, So Cap bonds are large, very beefy indeed! They have a lot of hair in each strand. Splitting them in half works nicely for finer haired people.
Good luck and let's see some pictures after you have them in.
Thanks Metalgirl. I think I am actually if I jump in and do it will do the custom ones this salon does. I cam to that conclusion only because So-Cap examples I saw there is so much hair on one bond and I have very fine hair. So with the custom they will blend 3 colors and make smaller bonds for me.
Now if I can get up the courage to place the order.
So Cap bonds are keratin, it doesn't mattter if they are applied with the ultra sonic cold machine or the hot fusion wand. I am So Cap USA certified and I like that method and bond a lot.
Any method of extensions can ruin your hair if:
*they are not put in properly and carefully
*the client does not take care of them properly
*the client wears them longer than 12 weeks without complete take down
*they aren't removed carefully and with patience
I have personally worn So Cap bonds and also a sew in weave myself, and I don't think neither method ruined my hair.
So Cap is reusable, they sell the Rebond chips, but most stylists won't tell you that because they want you to buy new hair each time.
mintmocha- have you seen your hair after having the braids removed? How did your hair hold up? I recently tried a sewin (based on the feedback here) and found it wasn't for me. While I had it in, I loved the look, the ease, and how great my hair looked. But when I had it removed, I felt I lost a ton more hair than I ever did with individual strand by strand method (GL or hairlocs). the tension and weight for the wefts on my braids was too much for my thin/fine hair....
WOWOOWOW....my advice to you is to have the stylist do a few sample strands in your hair...so you can try it out. Pay for it if you have too ( i never had too...most stylists were super nice and willing to put in 3-4 strands in my hair) this allowed me to see how the weight held up on my hair and if I felt comfortable with the method (you can do this with any strand by strand method....hairlocs/links, GL or keratin bonds, or shrinkies/mark barrington style). Unfortunately, you can't really do a small try out for sewins.
Thank you for the info. The braid really scares me with my hair being all done up tight like that and the water and it drying out. Thanks for the info on it..I am glad you like it so much. Just nervous about doing that from the horror I have seen on some boards.

I agree with Tangles...it's all a form of "glue". Ive done Great Lengths, as well as other fusion with keratin bonds, etc. No matter how careful the stylist or I have been, I have never felt that my hair didn't suffer any damage. (And my stylist is the West Coast educator for GL)
Have you considered doing a sew in? I just had my first one and I'm hooked. I always thought Great Lengths/fusion was "the best" and least detectable but I LOVE this sew in. I have 3 tiny braids on theback of my head (ear to ear basically) and the wefts are just sewn into the braid - the rest of my hair is left out. My hair was to my chin and I had 6oz of 18" Bohyme sewn in and razor cut to blend and it looks flawless....and I can reuse the hair if I want, which I never could with fusion. I paid around $300 for the hair and $180 for the sew in and I love love love it! I can wear it up, down, everything and its totally undetectable (sp?),
Just throwing that out there if you are looking for a method that looks really natural and you can reuse the hair and it doesn't damage your hair, because to be honest I LOVED my Great Lengths but this way looks just as awesome, more cost effective for me, and I can reuse the hair. yay.
keritin, so cap, wax, protien- its ALL glue- no matter what way the wording is delplicted, its glue- adhesive, any liquid that is applied to something that hardens to make a bond, its glue.
most glue cannot be reusued because most bonds needs to be broken or crushed to get out of hair.
with that said, there ARE some.... that can be reused. not really sure which
looking at getting ext. I have been looking more towards So-cap because it doesn't use heat to bond. Today when I went for a consult the stylist wants to do keratin bonds. I thought those were worse for the hair since they are applied via heat.
I have fine hair but very curly. I need the extensions to help even out the back and hopefully give my hair a break to finally get some length. My hair is only about 4-5 " now.
Also when I asked about reusing hair I was told they don't do that at all. But then I see posts where others are able to reuse. For a 1/2 head the quote was $600 that was for custom blend with keratin bond. Does that sound about right?
