QuoteReplyTopic: need to determine face shape to find hair style--HELP! Posted: March 08 2004 at 4:38pm
Hey, I have a question. I know this is a sort of old thread, but can I ask one question? Does your face have to be exactly the same size wide as it is long? My face is 7 1/8" long and 5 1/2" wide. Is that round or maybe a roundish other shape? I went to www.sitagita.com and the descriptions kept talking about short foreheads. I have a sort of big forehead (it's longish). Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks so much for the input! I measured my face and it is longer forehead to chin than it is wide across the cheekbones. When I draw it on the mirror it looks squarish! Here are some pics of my current `do:
You have great hair. Another way to know the shape of your face is to measure it with a tape measure. Measure from the top of your fore head to your chin. Then from the end of your cheekbone at the hair line to the other end. If the first is longer than the second, you are an oval. If both are the same, youare round. You def look oval to me. Your face looks longer in the long hair picture. Is your current cut shown in one of these pics?

Hi Kim Here`s how to tell about your face shape. Pull all your hair back in a ponytail, or do this while your hair is slicked back wet. Take a bit of a bar of soap, an eye or lipliner pencil, something that will wash off glass, and "draw" your face outline on the mirror. Then you`ll know.
Best of luck finding a new style! Gren

To my eye, your face looks more oval than round. That makes you very lucky indeed - you can wear just about any hairstyle you like and look great! :)
Generally, oval faces can go either short or long, but you should keep the hair mostly all one length (like the bob in one of the pictures). Layers can also create a lot of volume and that con sometimes overwhelm the face. Long, wispy bangs are generally very flattering for an oval face shape.
Here is a web site that will help you choose your face shape and hairstyle:
Hi, I need to make a hair change! Before I start searching for pics, I really need some objective advice on my face shape. I`ve always looked for "round face" styles but maybe that isn`t so?
My hair is basically a semi-wavy cheekbone length layered bob right now. The side are frustrating me because I rarely (if ever) wear it down, classic bob style--it looks very wide, like I have a triangle shaped hat on! For everyday I push it off my face, making use of the cowlick in the front. The sides I tuck behind my ears. The back is stacked a bit, so I scrunch it up to get some fullness.
Here are some pics (note the difference in hair length!)
