Hey Wonder: :)

If it was 2001, its been a while...Your ends may be filled already with what ever wash-ins you have been playing around with, so if you don`t have any ends that are lighter than the outside of a banana (real yellow or taupey yellow/gold or darker, even better) you are probably fine.

Be careful how dark you go though...the darker the color, the more pigment, the more those pourus (frizzy) ends will grab and the longer it will last. I have seen some semi-permanent pigment last way longer than permanent color pigments.

Anytime hair is lightened it is forever changed, that cuticle has to be opened wide to get your natural color out. That is why those ends will suck up that new color pigment faster and sometimes darker than your top healthy hair. There are some excellent Protien re-conditioners that would help seal those ends, Redkens` CAT Protien is my favorite...Or just have those ends trimmed.

:)Happy Stylin.

Thank you very much Sophie. I got higlights in July 2001 and I never went over them I just let them grow out they are about past my chin now. They aren`t that visible though. I haven`t colored over it except for wash-in wash-out colorants.
Another question is where my highlights are still growing out my hair is really frizzy unlike the top of my hair...is that damaged?

Hi WonderWaves; mid-blonde is your natural color?? Do you have any highlights?? Look at the lightest part of your hair...How light is it?

Usually you just can`t put dark over light, without filling the blonde first...depending on your lightest areas...because your blondest hair will pick up base tones in the color (green blue pink) depending on what color you choose.

You definitely have the right idea going with the semi-permanent color though. Less damage, more shine.

I`ll have to say what I always say: Get Thee to a Salon. But if you are determined to do it at home, Clairol`s Natural Instincts isn`t too bad for over the counter color. :)

Can you buy a medium / dark brown semi-permanent color available for mid-blond hair? I don`t want permanent because I would probably want to go back to blond. If there is could you possibly tell me the brand, color etc. Much appreciated.
