QuoteReplyTopic: Coffee hair dye? Posted: February 23 2003 at 6:49pm
Does anyone have any experience with the coffee dye for brunettes with greying hair? I thought about trying Lush's coffee color (www.lush.com)--I love Lush products. But I am not sure whether the coffee color would cover my grey (I'm a medium/dark ash brunette.) I am 36 years old and have lots of stubborn grey in my sides.
Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Directions: Bring one cup of water to boil and steep tea bags for 15 minutes. Discard teabags. Combine yogurt and 7 drops of lavender oil, mix thoroughly. Apply the mixture to dry hair, working through to ends. Cover head in plastic wrap and condition for thirty minutes. Shampoo hair.
Again, I don`t know anybody that has actually tried this but it certainly sounds interesting.
I have heard/read about using coffee as a hair dye for brunettes but don`t know anyone that has actually tried it.
The Long Locks web site has these directions:
Ingredients: Triple strength black coffee
Directions: Shampoo hair. Place a large bowl in sink and rinse hair with cooled coffee. Repeat several times, reusing the coffee. Leave final rinse in hair for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with clear water.
I also have a book that has very similar instructions:
Brunette: Wash your hair with strong black tea, or black coffee. Pour the rinse through your hair 15 times, re-rinsing with the same liquid. On the final rinse, wring hair, and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing with clear water.
This is obviously a stain rather than a dye ( similar to henna).
I read about it on here somewhere... Have you tried it? What color does it work on? What do you do? I was just curious, oh and I`d imagine your hair would smell like Starbucks??!!
