Yeah Claribuzz - It was fun reading. Enjoy your hair adventures. I agree with you on asian hair expressions. I love asian hair models and the funky looks/colors they are able to acheive with their awesome hair.

A boy’s history of hair craziness

I think, probably, almost everyone who is in this Hair Talk Section is absolutely crazy about hair. The symptoms are constantly talking about hair to everyone ( I drove my mom and my sister off the wall with my hairy tales ), constantly looking for a new look every day, tries a variety of hair products from A to Z, search for websites like the one you are viewing, and some just like the mane that we are proud off.
My craziness begins when I was 9 years old. My family moved from Malaysia to Norman, Oklahoma in the US. My dad was pursuing his bachelor in engineering so all of us (my family had to follow). So I went to school in Madison Elementary School near our apartment. Since labor in the US is so expensive, hair cuts were also very expensive. In Malaysia a child’s haircut is only RM 4, its about $2 before the economy fell. So in US its like 10 bucks = RM 25, there was no way my parents would sent me to a barbershop, so my dad would cut my hair in the bathroom.
Because he did a lot of studying, he has little time to cut my hair. I have this thick, curly, Asian black hair, so if it was left to grow long, I would be a member of the Jackson 5 in just 2 month. My hair just grows too fast. Between those hair cut, I hated my fluffy hair, so I experimented with a variety type of styling products. I think I tried a variety of gel from Depp to Salon Selectives and I don’t know it’s been so long. I tried to prevent the puffiness on sides of my hair with them. Then I switched to mousse, it was fun playing with the shaving cream like texture. After I used hairspray, a lot of hair spray, but that hair spray turned my curly hair into a portable pencil box, because my hair was so curly and after spraying with hair spray it was very very hard. You could put 10 pencils in there and no one would know. (Yes I tried it) After months of frustration I stopped at just let the hair go curly messy and wild. I also had my father shaved it a few times because of a myth that shaved hair would grow straight :b
You have to remember this, that I was around 9 to 12 years old when using these products. So I was very advanced for my age with experimenting with hair products. After 3 years of crazy styling products, and wild afros, we returned back to Malaysia. After that I got my hair cut regularly every month if I was not lazy. But then my afros grow every now and then. And it has been that way until I went to college. During second semester break, I got excited again with hair. I really don’t know what brought this long kept desire up but it went up in a fury. I kept my hair into an afro cause it was making a comeback now. I went to the internet and researched all that I could about hair from shampoos, conditioners, cause of dandruff, styling products, products especially for men, coloring and straightening.
My first step to hair craziness is coloring, I wanted to see how my hair would look in a different color but I did not want to scare my parents, so I choose a purplish brown (Blackcurrant from Natea Gardinier), I loved my curly hair doesn’t really show the color unless I was in the sun, but nevertheless I loved it. When I came back into 3rd semester some of my friends did not noticed it but some did. It was a 50/50 response from them, but it was cool though. Then I suddenly had the urge to color it again and I colored it brown and then blue black. Doesn’t really grabs attention. After those coloring session I had another urge, which was to have it straight. I went to my local salon where I have my $2 haircut. (cheap labor) I had it relaxed for $10 (cheap huh!)
I was thrilled, never before I had my fluffy hair actually parted in the middle. In fact it never parted before anywhere.
Other than the huge smile on my face, my hair seemed to have a brownish color to it; I thought the blue dye did not completely absorb my hair so I shrugged it. My friends was so SURPRISED, I was turning heads everywhere. My big afro suddenly turns flat straight and parted in the middle. Girls gave a thumb up and liked my hair. Guys, well they are jealous of my attention with girls. I was thrilled at that time to. Then I saw a gel (L’Oreal Special FX Radical Gel) that could make my hair into spikes. Then I experimented with spiky hair. Again I drew a big attention among my classmate. Girls and guys gave the thumb up. Even the librarian, cafeteria lady, and cashier boy turned and looked at me. It was COOL. I think now I am a attention seeker. (Hehehe).
After a while my hair was getting curly again and there was no way that I would go get it straighten again ( to expensive) so bought the relaxer kit and did it my self. The I started a small business and straighten my friends hair. I made a fortune. Enough to have my hair relaxed for free. J After that I kept my straight always until today. But there the occasional spikiness but only on certain days, it took way to much time and gel, expensive gel. Right now I have colored it Copper Blonde so it is much more noticeable that before because I am more confident now. I am thinking about being a blonde sometime in the future. Surely my parents will faint to see me. Also I am looking for a salon that can highlight my hair blue. Its very cool. Very Japanese or Korean. To me Japanese and Korean people have the coolest kind of hair. If you see a Japanese or Korean teen film, you should see the their hair. Blonde, bronze, red, blue, silver, green, white, and purple. Weird color but to me it looks so right. I guess it is the Japanese anime influence.
