I have coconut butter from the health food store...I think it's a pint size.

I wonder if you could render the oil out of that and get alot more than 2 1/2 ounces?????

I will look at it more closely.

Hello Sophie
Tried the oil on my skin,, pretty good stuff... It is fun to make ,,,, but some work ... just to get 2 1/2 oz... I think everyone should try to make coconut oil just once for fun... it was pretty cool to skim the top of the product and cook it and see the oil appear....

Have a great hair day..

I took the plunge.. I have a few pics but don't know how to put them up...
worked out pretty good... smells not like coconut,, more like a roasted coconut...or something like that.. it made about 2 1/2 oz...

Hello Everyone...
I found this on the Internet.. Thought everyone would like it...or maybe not ha ha.... I have not yet tried this... but if anyone does,,,, please let me know how it turns out..

1, Find 2/3 dried coconut from any market/green grocer

2, Break the coconut open and remove the flesh from the inside... this is a bit of a task but it''s worth it....

3, Cut the coconut flesh into smaller pieces and place into your blender and add some water. Blend... Continue adding pieces and water and blend until the blender is full....

4, Now you have coconut milk the contents of the blender should be nice and milky...

5, Strain the contents of the blender into an opaque glass or metal container. Squeeze the remaining coconut flesh to remove remaining milk into the container.
For the flesh remaining in the blender add some water mix and then strain into the container as well. Remember to squeeze out the milk...

6, Cover the container and put some place close to the stove overnight...DO NOT DISTURB... Try to leave it at least 24 hours...

7, Next day place a deep frying pan/pot on the stove to hot... Uncover the container still trying not to disturb... there should be a cream soft crust on the top of the liquid in the container. Skim this cream off the liquid and place into the heated pan...

8, Fry this until the oil begins to appear and the crust becomes a dark golden brown. Turn off the stove and leave your oil to cool...

9, Strain into a bottle for your every day use...

It said this should make probable half a small Coca-Cola bottle...

Have fun with this one....
Hairs to you...
Brenda
